Old hotel with poor service, over priced compare to other hotels with better service on Gurnee area.

How much space is there to write all my complaints about this visit? (1) We booked in on their 'breakfast rate' which means you either get the full buffet or a voucher for $20. The hotel chose not to serve a buffet option and we were forced to go ala-carte. A simple breakfast with juice & coffee for 2 (far less breakfast than the buffet) landed up costing us more than the $20 - so what was the point paying the 'breakfast rate' ? (2) The room was old and manky, and the towels could do with replacing. (3) As we will be in Gurnee on an extended stay I asked about a discount for staying 'x' number of nights; and told that there was no such option (in fact the price would even go up for the weekend inbetween) there was absolutely NO effort made to keep our business. We are now at the Country Inn up the road - $30 per day less, breakfast included! (seperate review to follow)

We needed to be close to the Navy base for my brothers boot camp graduation, this seemed like an ideal spot. Being that we are from Chicago, we only needed the room for one night so that we could be at the base early in the morning. We arrived at the hotel at 9:30pm on Thursday night, the clerk at the front desk was pleasant. We were given a room on the second floor. The room was very dated. It did have a window, but when you opened the curtain you got a view of the wiring for the lights in the lobby. The room was dark and shabby, and the pull out bed was by far the worst I have ever slept in! They do have late check in, which we found out at 12:00am when a loud party was checking in for the night. The hotel is centrally located to Gurnee Mills, Great America and the Navy Base, this is how they actually get people to pay to stay there. I would recommend that Holiday Inn take some of the money they charge people to stay there and put it into renevating the property. I would not stay there again unless serious updating was done!

Didn't have our rooms ready when we arrived, and it was getting pretty far into the afternoon when we first arrived. Check out time is I believe 11:00, so if you can't have a room ready after quite a few hours, something is definitely wrong. We had a schedule to keep to, but couldn't leave our belongings on the bus, so the manager said he would lock them in a conference room off of the lobby and that they would be fine. We were with a group of people, all of whom had placed their luggage in the room.

First off, the room WAS NEVER LOCKED! Someone could have walked in and stolen every last bag if they had wanted to, and in the end, someone's bag did get stolen. There was no apology from the Holiday Inn staff...None. Aside from this, they were very rude overall.

The showers were freezing, clearly indicating that they need more water heaters, the beds were rock solid, and the experience was overall something that I would very much like to forget.
