“Owner/ manager will keep you away.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012 via mobile

I can't believe the poor service from the manager. Be warned. It will ruin your stay. The hotel itself is amazing. But be prepared to be cursed at and denigrated by the owner/anger. The staff however are fantastic but verbally abused by the management as are it's guests.

Good morning thank you for your kind remark , if you would have looked in majority of feed back on trip advisor you can see all of our customer they considering me a good host and I do beleave that customer is king of the any business .
I am rather puzzled about your comment about me, as you may know these days a good employee can find job any where and if you stating that my emploee are great employee then I must be a good boss that they are still working for me
Unfortunatley after being in sevice industery for over 40 years I have learned that it is impossible to make everybody happy.
I am sorry that on your departure you did not stop at the desk as I would have been very happy to hear you constructive comment so I can learn for the future, at these late stage if you wish you call me as well .

I also noticed that you have rated everything about the hotel ath the lowest possilble rate I would appreciate if you could elaborate on the rest of my hotel observation so I will be able improve them

Kind regards Mo Khamee Owner

Old hotel, very charming, very clean, very squeaky - the floors, the stairs, the doors, everything. Of course, that comes with the territory. What doesn't need to come with the territory is the gigantic brass headboard, brass ceiling fan, and comically hideous white plastic towel bars. We would stay again, just realize that not everything is period correct or even a good attempt at period correct.

Very nice historical hotel, the staff was wonderful and the food was tasty so we will definitely be back. Really had more of a B&B feeling than a hotel, VERY COZY! Walking distance to many different places.

My wife and I spent my birthday on September 29th in Grafton. We joined up with the St. Louis Parrothead Club for quite the party at the Grafton Winery. This hotel is charming. It really has more of a B&B feel than a hotel. All of the rooms are named which is kinda cute. BUT, very clean, very well kept and oozing with charm...much like Grafton itself. The bar is a real treasure so don't forget to go in and have a drink. The owners Mo and Karen will take good care of you. A great little weekend get away spot.

Room Tip: We had a river view room which was nice.

We had never heard of the Ruebel so our expectations were not very high. The owner was a true delight to chat with in the bar and we even enjoyed a drink together. The bar is from 1904 and I loved the stories the staff shared about it. The Mississippi room was comfortable and had a nice view of the river. There is a nice balcony just outside of our window. The group that we were with enjoyed hanging out in the sitting room upstairs after visiting wineries all day. What a great weekend!

The hotel was old and quaint, seemed to be newly refurbished within the last 4 or 5 years, maybe. Very comfortable bed. Beautiful Bar built in 1904. Restaurant was in the bar area & breakfast was very tasty. Our room was above the restaurant & the smell of bacon cooking in the morning was a good way to wake us up for breakfast. There was a seating area on the 2nd floor (where our room was) with a dining room table & chairs, 2 couches, & various other chairs & small tables. We were told we could use this area for gathering with our friends & bring our own drinks. We were wine tasting on one of the Illinois wine trails & did have some bottles of wine to share among other things. As we were celebrating September birthdays among our friends - it was perfect for us. The owner was very personable & told us the bar stayed opened as long as we wanted it to. When the last person went to bed the bar closed. There was a huge deck out back & smaller decks on the 2nd floor where you could sit outside. 1st floor deck even had heaters. Rooms with 2 beds seemed small, but in the 'Superior' room we had, there was enough room for a couch.

Room Tip: Only a few rooms had bathtubs - think they were on 1st floor. I know one of our friends had one wit...

This was a wonderful stay, the staff were very friendly and the owner was so nice, he even gave us a couple free drinks, bottle of wine, glasses, key chain and coffee cup because we spent our honeymoon there. We stayed in the honeymoon suite and had a nice big jacuzzi in our room. It was absolutely perfect.
