“Why has nobody reviewed this place??”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

Crikey, it's taken me a whole year to get around to writing this, mainly as I only discovered Trip Advisor last week....

Anyway, I stumbled across Delaney's in Goreville whilst I was riding the Trans-America cycle route last Autumn (That's 'The Fall to you American types). I arrived in the town almost dead on my pedals (Ok, that's slightly over-dramatising it. I was 'really tired') and was in desperate need to refuel my ailing body. I walked in and was immediately impressed by the skeleton dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow for Halloween! I love how you guys 'do' Halloween...

I soon realised that this was the perfect for a cyclist (or 'bicyclist' as our American friends call us). I arrived at around 2.00pm and was shown to my table by the very lovely and very chatty waitress (Taylor) and was re-charged by the endless cups of coffee she provided. I think I'm correct in saying that, just for a change!!!!, I ordered a cheese burger with fries. Just to be extra incredibly European I had mayonnaise on the side (you guys really should try this. It's far superior to ketchup! Taylor wouldn't be convinced, however). Anyhoo, the food hit the spot....

The thing that so impressed me about the place was actually the staff. I chatted with Taylor for the couple of hours that I spent there, learning a great deal about US politics (Sorry that Obama was re-elected, Taylor!). I think that she may have actually been the only person in the entire US that didn't ask me if I was Australian. And that alone means that they get five stars from me!!!

As Delaney's is slap-bang on the Trans-Am route, they have a bit of a 'wall of fame' for us stupid enough to ride just under 4,500 miles across your country. Well, when I say 'wall' I actually mean 'table'. It's splendid to see so many other tired/bearded/haggard looking travellers smiling into the camera. AND what's even better, if you agree to have your photo taken, they will give you free pie. I had some piece Titanic pie of lemon pie with a pint of whipped cream on the top. So, if you head on in there, you'll (hopefully) see a picture me hugging Jack Sparrow, with a British flag draped over my shoulders...

I really didn't want to leave Delaney's that afternoon, if I'm honest.

Thank you all the way from the UK, and sorry that it took so long!
