A few girlfriends and I found this place when planning a girls' weekend. We looked at a handful of cabins in the very general area and this was the winner.
We stayed in The Bunkhouse. The first thing I noticed: the pictures on the website don't do the actual cabin justice. It was very spacious, clean, and homey.
I stayed in what I guess is the master bedroom with the bathroom attached. I found the bed very comfortable and had no trouble sleeping. The only downside was our neighbor leaving very early - the driveway was right outside my window. Who leaves a cabin at 5 am? It's vacation, people!
There were plenty of blankets, towels, cooking supplies, firewood, soap..
We spent the first night exploring the surrounding area and picking up smores supplies. The fire pit area is nice, but had a couple of cons. First: the occasional waft of the septic tank, Second: the ground around part of it is sloped so that makes things a little tricky when setting up. Neither of these things kept us from enjoying the fire and eating our weight in smores.
We never got a chance to go hiking, but from what it looked like there were trails immediately behind the cabin. Very cool.
I didn't have any interaction booking the cabin, but we got to pull up and go in without having to deal with any "checking in" stuff. That was really cool. The door was coded with a pin number my friend selected. When it was time to check out, we cleaned up and left with the door locked behind us. Easy peasy.
There is cable, but we never turned on the TV. The cell phone reception is basically non existent so it's perfect for unplugging. There is open wifi available.
The cabins are within driving distance of many attractions - horseback riding, hiking, antiques, natural wonder type stuff, etc.
If you're going to be in the Shawnee Forest area, these cabins are definitely a great place to stay.
