I've had lunch-only meals at this north suburban tavern, and am looking for a reason to tuck into a dinner. Welcoming, cozy woodsy decor with fireplace, hospitable, prompt service, short but broad wine list, and unexpectedly varied menu. Salads with a wide variety of fish and meat toppings are crunchy fresh and big enough to provide at least one take-home meal. On my last visit, the grouper tacos were superb. Don't forget the black bread, made for Valley Lodge from some kind of special recipe. The bread basket is served upon sitting, and loaves can be bought to take-home.
