When it comes time to travel to Chicago's western suburbs, Cab's is always, always, always on the short list. Why? Simply because I can always count on Cab's for a good time.
As a foodie, I can really appreciate the preparation of dishes I've had at Cab's, whether it's steak, lamb, or seafood. Some favorites include the mouth-watering tuna tartar, sumptuous steak frites, sauteed sea scallops with orange – citrus butter, beer battered calimari and the grilled lamb burger. I'm not so into the dipping oil accompaniment that comes with the bread; it's a little sweet for my tastes. Otherwise, their food gets my thumbs up!
Now, as for the ambiance, I must say I really appreciate the chic new colors on the walls -- the sheeny greens -- along with the terrific photos displayed throughout. It's very hip and urban, and offers a great counterpoint to the informal air of its clientele.
The music is solid and a definite plus, often featuring bluesy acts that blend a homespun feel with professional excellence. Hot tip: I heard that they will be kicking off a weekly record-listening night on Tuesdays where guests are encouraged to bring their own vinyl records to play.
All in all, Cab's lives up to its motto, "Great food without the attitude!"
