“Wonderful stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2012

Have stayed at this hotel for the last few years on Christmas eve. The staff is always very helpful and friendly. I was traveling with my son who is in a wheelchair and at first was put on the second floor but then when I said that I could not do this the front desk clerk changed my room and also put us near one of the outside doors so that we could get him in and out quickly. Also very honest clerk that day, I had forgotten to get my change from her when I checked in, (we didn't go straight to the room), there was an envelope under our door with the change in it.
Will always be staying at this Super 8

My recent stay at Super 8 Gilman was very nice. The motel is much improved since I stayed here last about 10 years ago. My 5-Star rating of this motel is compared to other Super 8's and similar motels. I don't want to confuse you between a 5-star Super 8 and a 5-star Hilton / Marriott. The motel & room were very clean, everything worked as designed. Check in was quick & easy, I don't believe the motel has an elevator (its only 2-floors). Gilman is a small town located on I-57, about an hour and a half south of Chicago. Super 8 is located within walking distance of the Gilman Amtrak train station. For rail buffs, yes you can see the passing trains, even at night. For everyone else, train noise is not an issue. Train's do blow their horn for the US-24 crossing, but they are not loud enough to wake you, additionally, only around 15 trains use the line during a 24-hour period, most of which are during daylight. There are several fast food restaurants, mini-marts, and an Italian Restaurant nearby. I enjoyed my stay in Gilman.

Room Tip: Very light sleepers may find rooms on the rear (east side) quieter.

This motel has rubber mattress protectors on the beds!!! It mades me cringe to think that apparently management has prepared their rooms to accommodate quick-stay clientele. Besides the 'yuk' factor, the rubber bed coverings don't breath, causing you to be hot and sweat all night. I complained, and the snarly desk clerk just said "I'll let management know."

Sure it's an inexpensive motel, but it's still a national chain. As a business traveler, I'd never expect Wyndham Worldwide to keep a property like this in their portfolio.

Bypass this place. Drive 30 more miles to Kankakee or Rantoul for much better accommodations at about the same price.

Looking for a place to get a few hours sleep on a long road trip. This hotel is not near anything but I-54 as far as I can tell. Mostly farmland around it with a couple of gas stations and restaurant. Check in was friendly. Room was reasonably clean and smelled OK. Looked like their primary guests were working men (railroad workers, highway workers, etc.) Only room available was one with 2 queen beds, so the $70 rate was a bit more than I usually pay at Super 8 as a solo traveler. Furniture was inexpensive but adequate. Had fridge, microwave, iron, board, etc. Room was large. Hotel is about one block from railroad tracks and crossing and I heard trains a couple of time during the night. Also like most inexpensive hotels the wall are thin so you get some noise from adjoining rooms, although the other guests were quiet by bedtime.

The desk clerk was pleasant, the room was clean and spacious and it's convenient to the interstate. Overall, a good value. The only drawback was that it's located very close to the railroad tracks, and I got awakened a couple of times during the night by a train blowing its whistle as it rumbled past. If you're not a sound sleeper, you might bring earplugs.

ask for AARP discount, was told $69. 00 per night for two adults was their best price. To make matters worse, no hot water in shower. They denied there was a hot water problem in room. Someone did come and check. I was told all rooms were booked, they would fix the problem the next day. We went to sleep dirty after driving all day. The repairs were make at 10 am the next day. I asked for a late check out. I was told 11:00 was check out. I could only stay 30 min more. until 11:30 am. I will never return . We stayed for 6 days in Chicago, the previous days . Cleaner, friendlier, and cheaper: and plenty of hot water. Danyal

Very clean room and bathroom. Furniture in good condition. Overall a good place to crash for the night on the highway. No problems. Though nothing special either.
