We stayed six nights here in late September, 2012--first time in the Galena area. I booked it from reviewing internet options and comparing prices with places in the downtown. We prefer a hotel instead of a B and B and also wanted a place which would allow us to bike into the town. Well, we didn't know the hills were there, but the daily walk into Galena for shopping and dinner became one of the highlights of our vacation! The views from the area of Grant's home just down the street are fabulous. We were very happy with our stay. Sure, the hall carpets show some wear and the breakfast was high in carb choices, but if you looked around, you could eat an apple, orange and have some yogurt. The coffee bar was kept going all day. The rooms are extra large with a very nice sitting area. The balcony became an extension of our room and we enjoyed that space very much. The boxelder bugs were moving into the area when we left, but they were all over town and even up at the Frank Lloyd Wright home Taleisin. What really was special was the staff. They are friendly and helpful. I was a bit worried when I saw the "fancy" specialty rooms that there might be Las Vegas type people (sorry about the stereotype--I've never been to Las Vegas) staying there and not midwestern types, but those rooms are actually very tastfully done and the other guests were very pleasant. We wish the new owners the best of luck as they continue to bring this property up!
