I'll preface this by saying that I do not like B&B's in general. I have always thought them "stuffy", "pushy" and "snoopy". A place where I feel forced to "commune" with the other guests on a daily basis. That said....My husband, our dog and I stayed at TerraLinda August 8-10, 2008. I found this property online while searching for accommodations in Galena that accept dogs. I am so happy I stumbled across TierraLinda.
Upon arriving Friday afternoon, we walked up toward the farmhouse and, to be honest, were a bit worried that we had picked the wrong place to stay. As Armando indicates on his website, he has decided this year to stop mowing his property and let nature take over as it chooses. Because the yards were obviously not "manicured", we were fearful that the accommodations would be much of the same. What a surprise we had in store.
TierraLinda is a true Midwest farmhouse. Original tin ceilings, beautiful hardwood floors, lovely woodwork throughout the home. Armando has done simply an amazing job maintaining the home to it's original appeal. Our guest room was phenomenal. When we entered, the lace curtains were swaying so beautifully in the breeze and from the windows all one could see and hear was nature. Hummingbirds, water, pathways that lead to even more beautiful surprises.
Armando is simply an inspiration. You might feel weighed down from your daily grind, and if you do, this is the place you must go to get away. TierraLinda makes you remember the important things in life. I think a lot of us forget about the true beauty there is to enjoy in this world. Armando and his puppies bring that all back at TierraLinda. Whether we were swimming in the lake, hiking through the overgrown paths, playing with our dogs, fishing, or sitting next to the ever-burning fire enjoying a glass of wine (too many!!), TierraLinda made us feel so incredibly thankful for the beautiful world in which we live.
There have been people on this website that have said their dogs never wanted to leave. I don't know about my dog, but I truly did not want to leave TierraLinda. Our weekend was so much fun enjoying Armando's stories, making fun of his "rules", the wonderful guests staying in the other guest room, and venturing out onto the property to see all there is to see.
There are only two guest rooms - which is the ideal way to go at a B&B.... This creates such a wonderfully intimate atmosphere. It makes you feel like it's actually your own home away from home.
I have already booked a reservation for this September and am counting the days for my return.
One final note: Because Armando is the sole proprietor and manager of this property, he has to schedule his busy day carefully around his guest arrivials. At first glance, it may seem like the arrival day has a lot of rules to follow, but don't be put off in the least about having to call him a couple of times on your day of arrival. He really does have to put the puppies away so they don't bombard your car when you're pulling in to the property (no worries - the puppies are extremely lovable!). Just follow his simple little instructions for arrival and everything goes perfectly! (I'm an habitual rule-breaker, so maybe I slacked on this process a bit!) But, truly, it's much easier to do it Armando's way. Armando knows best and it's worth it worth it worth it!!!
