I have stayed at the Main Street Inn in Galena several times and have always found it to be a good value.

You DO have to be mobile enough to climb some pretty steep stairs to and from the guest rooms to the street, so it's probably not suitable if you're not able or willing to do that.

However, I have found with each stay, the inn keeper to be friendly and helpful with any questions or problems that arise.

The rooms are clean, beds comfortable, and bathrooms tidy and clean. Breakfast varies, and is served in the open hallway at the top of the stairs. We've always been offered fresh fruit, juice, coffee, tea, pastries, and a hot dish of some sort. Very ample for our jaunts down the magnificent Main street shopping in Galena.

There is a microwave and fridge in the hallway for anyone in the 6 rooms to share........and we've taken advantage of stowing our AMPLE portions from the restaurants on Main Street. Water and soda is also offered on an honor system....not overpriced, but it would be a nice touch if they were complimentary. Cable television is in your room, but I've found the coziest spot to watch is from your bed.......chairs in the rooms are not real comfortable, but keep in time with the era of the building.

I have stayed in 3 of the 6 rooms available at the inn and each was very comfortable. Keep in mind you are in a charming 1850's era building, so there will be a few quirks here and there you don't experience from the 5 star new hotels.......but I have found the inn to be a fun and convenient place to stay with girlfriends, daughters, and even my hubby.

Parking is a little tricky, as Main Street Galena has a 3 hour parking limit, so you must either park behind the inn, just a block over, or move your vehicle every three hours until 6 p.m. when you can stay parked there overnight.

For the price, and convenience of being right on Main Street in glorious Galena, I would recommend this inn to everyone "stout-hearted" enough to climb the stairs.
