“Good experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2014

My wife and I have eaten here a couple of times previously and as always we were pleased with the food and service. My wife had lasagna and I had filet mignon with sauteed shrimp. The steak was very tender and flavorful and the shrimp were cooked well... wife liked hers as well. The house salads were also good.
It was very busy on this Saturday night, so it was good that we had reservations. We were seated upstairs where it was fairly quiet and the tables were spaced far enough apart to be comfortable. If you sit by the windows, you have a nice view of main street below. Our server was professional and prompt, even though it was busy. We will keep this on our list of good places to eat when in Galena.

“Pretty good bet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2014

Although some of us have memories of how wonderful this restaurant was when it was out in the country, the current location seems to be improving. It's not quite as cramped and noisy as it was when they first moved and the food quality has been improving. I usually try the specialty ravioli or pasta that they offer on the menu. The filet is an excellent choice as well.

“Fantastic Meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2014

The sea bass and the rib eye steak were exceptional. Service couldn't be better. We have never had anything but great meals at Fried Green Tomatoes. Highly recommend it.

“Special Restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2014

We love eating here. Fred is amazing and his staff is top notch. Kimberly and Lisa always take such good care of us. The sea bass is as good as you will get anywhere and my husband loves the pecan encrusted walleye. The wine list is very good. The restaurant itself is very attractive and reflective of Galena.

“A gem for Galena”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2014

My husband and I had dinner there the night before Thanksgiving. Since we're not fans of the traditional turkey dinner buffet, we had our nicer meal on the day when everything was open and then just had a comfortable pub meal at one of the very few open places on Thursday.

We discovered on our first trip there that, despite having a sizable tourist industry, much of it from the "big city", Galena's idea of "fine food" hasn't really progressed much from when it was all about a big steak. In other words--at least a couple of decades behind the food scene. With that said, from checking out all of the town's restaurants' menus online, there are a FEW vegetarian choices in some of the restaurants about which I can't comment since I didn't eat there. I did however, very much enjoy the vegetarian pasta dish that I ordered at Fried Green Tomatoes and my husband raved about his perfect filet--the quality, way it was prepared and the sides on the plate. The service was excellent as well. The dinner cost about what we'd expect to pay in a comparable fine neighborhood restaurant in Chicago, rather than absurd tourist prices for bad food at (at least) one other Galena eatery.
If we ever get back to Galena, we're making a bee line for Fried Green Tomatoes! Only one suggestion to those good folks: more vegetarian and at least one nice vegan entrees and salads.
