My wife and I stayed at the Irish Cottage during the week between Christmas and New Years. I choose the hotel after the many favorable reviews I read on this site and very good mid-week rate.
I found the front desk staff to be very nice and helpful. We were check-in very quickly and they answered our question about dinning options in Galena.
One complaint I had about this hotel was that it was a tad bit noisy. I read where other reviewers say that this hotel was quite. While it was still realtively quite, I didn't find this to be true. You could hear doors slamming and kids in the hall As I have traveled a bit for business, I found this hotel to be built like a Fairfield Inn.
The room was nice. The bed was comfy. There were plenty of pillows. The was a 26" TV in the room but it had many more stations than a typical hotel. The decorations in the room where reflective of the area the room is named after (cities in Ireland).
We tried out the pool and hot tub. It is located in the basement of the hotel. Pretty decent facilities for the size of the hotel. The jets were working on the Spa and the water was pretty warm.
I enjoyed watching some live Irish music that night while sipping on a few Guinness in the pub. It was nice being able to put a few back without having to worry about driving home. The music was pretty good and loved the atmosphere of the pub. Very reminisent of my times in Ireland.
The biggest disappointment was the Breakfast. It was basically juice, scones, and fruit. After checking it out my wife and I opted to swing by McDonalds instead.
