A fantastic B & B. We will not stay in Galena if we can't stay at the Farmers' Guest House. Believe me you will love it!

My husband and I recently stayed overnight in Annie Lloyd's cottage at the Farmer's Guest House Bed & Breakfast for our 10 year anniversary. We really recommend this bed & breakfast and the cottage. The cottage is so cozy, private, and peaceful. We decided to sleep in the next morning, and Kathy and Jess even held breakfast for us, and served us at 11:00! They were wonderful!
We plan on returning as soon as we can get away!

Thanks

Kathie and Jess, the owners, were so friendly from the getgo. They have a beautiful bed and breakfast that is decorated so tastefully and fun. You could spend ours looking at everything that they have hanging on the walls or on shelves. They have put much thought into everything. On their property they have 1 private cottage and that is where my husband and I stayed for 3 nights to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. It was so comfortable, relaxing and peaceful that we know we will come back again. Their Inn is only 2 blocks away from Main Street where all the great little shops and delicious restaurants are located.

My husband and I have already told friends about this place and hopefully they will take our word and go stay there when they need a little getaway for themselves.

  • Liked — clean, comfortable and the breakfasts' were delicious!
  • Disliked — Not that it was a problem for us, but there are many stairs to take to get to the cottage. It might pose a problem for some.

The rooms are charming, Kathie was very helpful with recommendations and making a dinner reservation for us.

Would highly recommend this B&B

We've traveled to some of the countries most enjoyable resort areas, and we have been looking forward to visiting one of the Midwest's premier tourist destinations for people who love well-maintained historic locations--Galena, Illinois.

We had an opportunity to visit Galena over the Labor Day holiday and we were fortunate enough to book lodging with one of Galena's choicest B & B's, Farmers' Guest House. Elegant and still very affordable, the Guest House is hosted by Kathie and Jess Farlow, a warm and engaging couple who maintain a lovely, historic site with tasteful and immaculate attention to detail and an unmatched level of hospitality.

The rooms have been decorated with an eye to capturing the rich look and feel of such homes as President Grant's historic home and the other historic residences that have made Galena famous among history lovers and lovers of fine antiques.

Kathies' kitchen turns out a superb breakfast spread that rivals the offerings of the well-known restaurants that cater to the tastes of Galena's most discriminating visitors. Her assistant in the Kitchen, Charles (who also beautifies the grounds) turns out some scrumptious baked goods that keeps happy guests very happy. Together Kathie and Charles help keep a bottomless cookie jar filled with freshly baked cookies that add to the memorable experience of staying at the Farmers' Guest House.

Close to the shops, restaurants, and major attactractions of Galena, Farmers' Guest House also features a wall full of excellent jazz and contemporary music recordings that reflect the sophisticated tastes of Jess, an accomplished jazz musician.

Given the exceptional combination of B & B ambience, excellent food, and the hositality of a couple who soon become warm friends, it's safe to say there may not be a better Bed and Breakfast experience in the Midwest.

We have just recently returned from a trip to Galena,Ill where we stayed in the wonderful Farmer's Guest House Bed and Breakfast. The best thing about our stay was our hosts who were knowledgable of the area and took the time to visit and share their knowledge. They also have made sure to have a cozy and very comfortable living area to sit and read and enjoy their vast collection of music. It is very well organized and accessable. Wine each evening with music made for a delightful weekend. I would go back in a heartbeat. Our bed was extremely comfortable with soft linen and fluffy pillows. Downtown Galena was within walking distance. We did not have to move our car for the entire weekend yet had access to many fine restaurants and lots of interesting shopping.

The Farmer's Guest House was a perfect place to spend three days having a mini - family reunion. The innkeepers Kathie and Jess with their assistant Charles were awesome and they treated us like family. They were very accommodating and gave us lots of information about things to do in Galena. Their hospitality and their amazing breakfasts made our trip even more memorable. The caramel french toast was everyone's favorite! We really enjoyed having freshly baked cookies during the day, and a refrigerator where we could grab a soda or bottled water anytime. Also having early morning coffee on both floors was a great amenity, as well as the outdoor hot tub. The B&B is within walking distance of fabulous shopping, great restaurants ( we loved Vinny's ! ) and also a nice walking trail by the river. We will definitely visit Farmer's Guest House again.
