“Outstanding Food, View and Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

I can add little to the other five star reviews than to agree with them. All the foods are made from scratch by their excellent chef and it shows in quality, taste and presentation. Beef Wellington (a house specialty) was delicious and larger than I expected. The vegetables were flavorful and properly cooked. Bread and salad delicious (though the salad was a bit small). They even custom whip seasoned butter for their bread. The menu is seasonal and is changed four times a year. The hostess and server were extremely friendly and bent over backwards to ensure you enjoyed everything.

I would not advise this as a place for dining with children. While the dress is casual, the environment is formal and handsome, and the service professional. The one thing to note, that is frequently the case with top level cuisine: although the food is all exemplary, the menu is limited. This is a chef driven dining experience. Three appetizer choices, two soups, perhaps ten dinner choices. There are no choices of side dishes, the dinner plate is set for your entree. My wife and I loved the food and this was not an issue for us, but you need to be prepared. As a chocoholic, the only place I was disappointed with the limited menu was dessert. There were three (quite creative) choices, but nothing richly chocolate. Ah, well, the chocolate peanut butter cheesecake was superb and softened the disappointment. ;-)

“Excellent Meal ~ Beautiful View”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

We have eaten at the Goldmoor Inn restaurant twice and it was wonderful both times. Their Beef Wellington is excellent. Wait staff very friendly and attentive. Looking forward to a return visit and meal!

“Worth seeking out...Wow”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

The location is only 6 or 7 miles outside of Galena, but I kept thinking the directions had to be wrong...it seemed we were in the middle of nowhere. Suddenly were are there, high up on a hill overlooking the Mississippi. The building (Inn), the grounds, the views, the restaurant; all gorgeous!
It was a difficult decision: be seated in the dining room and the enjoy the spectacular view, or take advantage of the "kitchen table" which (as the name implies) is right inside the kitchen.
As we both enjoy cooking, we opted for the kitchen table. The young and very talented kitchen crew were friendly and down to earth. We enjoyed talking with them, and observing the meals being prepared. So much care went into each dish. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. A treat for the eye as well as the palate.
The service was so friendly and thoughtful. Our server seemed to be genuinely enjoying working there, enthusiastic, and
knowledgeable.
Overall, the Goldmoor exceeded our expectations in every way, and the prices represented an excellent value!
We can't wait to go back.

“Great Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013

I have nothing negative to say about this place. The ambience was beautiful, the service was excellent (thanks Sue!), and the food was outstanding! My wife and I came here to celebrate our 10th anniversary and they made it a wonderful evening for us. It is true that this will not be a cheap place to eat, but it is well worth it. The Goldmoor is not to be missed!

“luv to eat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

This was the best atmosphere and view overlooking the Mississippi River and country side. The service was very cordial and yet friendly. The Beef Wellington was done to perfection; fillet done to perfect med. rare and the pastery was very flakey and light. Have not had one as good as this anywhere. The salad was very crisp and fresh; some of the best Blue Cheese dressing. They have a wonderful wine list also. The kitchen is very clean; as we were invited to visit the chef's after our meal.
Would definetly do a return visit!
