“very satisfied!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

My husband and I stayed here for a quick one night getaway. We were very impressed with how friendly the staff was. It is in a good location depending on the reason for travel. Little Cubs Field is nearby, the Lincoln and Douglas debate site, Union Dairy for 51 flavors of ice cream and Krape park. Krape park is a must see with many activities for kids of all ages.
The hotel was clean and organized and the free breakfast was great. We ate at 8:30am and there was still plenty of food left!! No hot tub but the pool was refreshing and clean with no overwhelming smell of chlorine, like in many other hotel pools.

We booked the Hampton Inn in Freeport, IL on our way to visit our in-laws because in the past we loved our Hilton experiences. I was disappointed when I drove for 2 hours and I arrived to find the lobby was not air conditioned (it was during a major heat wave). Secondly, as soon as my family and I arrived to our room, the smell of cigarette smoke was extremely overwhelming (as a former smoker, the smell really turned me off). The air conditioning unit was set by a digital thermostat to 70 degrees upon entering. During the overnight hours, it had not "kicked in" at all. When we woke up in the morning, everyone was sweating and hot. We had to physically turn the thermostat down to 60 degrees to get it to "kick in". By then, we had all had a miserable nights sleep. The mattresses are not a very good quality (we had a 2 queen bed room) and the bedding reeked of nicotine. I turned the television off around midnight and had to immediately turn it back on to drown out the noise of traffic (we were on the 7th floor). Cars were revving their engines and peeling away at the stoplights. Not very sound proof windows. The final disappointment was the air conditioning unit’s filter was extremely filthy. I believe that contributed to the smell of the room. In the morning when my family and I went down for the breakfast, the lobby/dining area was extremely warm (temperatures outside were near 80 degrees at 8:30 am). The scrambled eggs tasted like they were made from powdered eggs. The scrambled eggs had ham and cheese mixed in but it only made them taste worse. All of the juices they offered tasted watered down. Other than the "make it yourself waffles", extremely thick oatmeal and the strange scrambled egg concoction, there were no other hot dishes offered. I should also mention that by 8:30 a.m. the food had already been extremely picked over. The pool only goes to 3 foot 5 inches deep MAXIMUM and there is no hot tub/whirlpool available at this location. After staying in several of the Hilton hotels and Hilton Garden Inns, this Hampton Inn location rated more like a "recently built Super 8". It did not have a "Hilton" feel to it at all.

Room Tip: Do not take the suite on the second floor (Room 201) on a weekend if you intend to get a good nights...

We are sorry we were not able to provide you with a better quality of service. This is not typical of our usual Hamptonality and welcoming staff, and we are always looking for ways to improve our customer experience. Your satisfaction is very important to us and we are all about Satisfaction Guaranteed and we try hard to make sure all of our guests have a great stay. We have addressed both our breakfast and maintenance staff regarding your personal inconveniences and we will take the step necessary to get them corrected permanently. I stayed overnight for business. The hotel staff was very friendly upon arrival. Check in was smooth and my room was very nice. Ate at the restaurant attached to the hotel. Food was very good. Overall a great stay, and I would stay here again.

I have stayed at the Hampton Inn in Freeport multiple times. Each time I stayed there, I was welcomed by a friendly/ helpful staff. The rooms are clean and very spacious. The breakfast is above average and it offers many options. I would recomend the Hampton Inn to anyone staying in Freeport.

Room Tip: There is not a bad room in this Hotel

I have stayed here a dozen plus times for business over the last two years. My room is always ready when I arrive that day and the manager on duty is always pleasant. The hotel is kept up well and very clean. Each night, in late afternoon/ early evening the staff makes cookies. Each Wednesday from 5-7 pm complimentary beer and wine is served in the lobby. Free Breakfast is served each morning and offers much more than the average continental breakfast selections

The hotel opened around 2007-08 in a renovated building in downtown Freeport. Downtown Freeport is not the best area, but I have never felt unsafe when staying at the hotel

The hotel has a modest exercise room. In addition, there is a small pool (no hot tub) in the basement. Keep in mind the building was not originally a hotel, and management has done the best they can and this is the only place the pool could have gone. There is an above average pub connected to the hotel. The food served by the pub has improved after a change of ownership in early 2012

We are delighted you enjoyed your stay with us and thank you for the feedback!

While the hotel was developed completely new a few years ago, our hotel is designated by the US Department of Interior as a Historic Preservation Site. We kept the historic entrance, original decorative lobby ceiling and original marble staircase intact and hope you enjoyed these unique features.

On Mother's Day 2012, we officially opened Main Street Bistro, a new restaurant concept with full-service lunch, dinner, bar and room service for the hotel. We hope you come back and enjoy our new restaurant.

It is wonderful to hear from our valued repeat customers and appreciate your continued patronage. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

The hotel is located just outside Freeport, but within driving distance of local attractions.

The rooms were clean and spacious. But they were is need of a bit of a update.

The service was excellent and the staff were happy to help in anyway they could.

Overall comfortable hotel for use as a base.

I've stayed here quite a few times. Crazy clean - reasonably quiet, great beds. The staff is always friendly. There's not a ton around the hotel, but the bar attached to the hotel seems to be pretty popular - although the kitchen shuts down at 9. I won't consider staying anywhere else. By the way, for the price, I don't think I've ever had better value. Ever.
