“Great find”

Hilton Garden Inn Evanston

This newer property in the heart of downtown Evanston was a wonderful oasis. The staff couldn't have been more personable or helpful. The room was clean and spacious. It included a microwave, small refrigerator, etc. The breakfast buffet was a cross between those found at Embassy Suites, another Hilton property, and the more standard hotel breakfast buffets. It was delicious and the variety of foods offered would satisfy nearly any dietary need.

Our only complaint was with the self-serve garage parking. There is no direct access to the garage so guests must go outside and then up the elevator in the garage.

The location is perfect; it's next to the arts district and within walking distance of the numerous shops, restaurants, and Northwestern University.

“Reliably Consistent”

Hilton Garden Inn Evanston

Our son's a sophomore at Northwestern, so we've been to Evanston perhaps a dozen times in the past 2 years to see him and his mates on the soccer team in action. More than half the time we have stayed at the HGI, the balance at the Homestead. We were most recently there in mid October, and have stayed there in August, September, November and February. It is our hotel of choice in Evanston. It is more centrally located than the Homestead(if you're walking toPete's, Starbucks, or any of the downtown Evanston establishments), has better parking(in the adjacent parking garage), and has the added benefit of overlooking the Evanston Farmer's market immediately next door-a fall Saturday fixture that usually results in one or two additional items of hand luggage full of pies/wreaths/vegetables/mushrooms etc for the trip home to Miami. We have had nothing but consistently excellent experiences at this hotel-helpful responsive accomodating staff, excellent breakfasts at the hotel restaurant, clean, comfortable, odor -and smoke free rooms, which don't feel cramped and wi fi that works as it should. I don't consider staying here a bargain, but I do feel that I am getting my money's worth. A word of warning, however, for this hotel and any others in Evanston-if you're going during the fall, check the Northwestern football schedule--rooms fill up months in advance on weekends when the Wildcats are at home.

“Clean and comfortable”

Hilton Garden Inn Evanston

Stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn for Northwestern's Family Weekend. The room and bathroom were very clean and comfortable. We especially appreciated the business center for an opportunity to print boarding passes prior to the airport. Buffet breakfast in the lobby restaurant was reasonably priced with very good selections. Parking was only $10.00/day at an indoor garage right next door.

“Great location, nice hotel”

I had a great two-night stay here. It's an HGI, so it's got in-room refrigerators, coffemaker, etc. It was perfectly nice. Parking was very easy, unlimited in/out, you just need to validate your parking ticket every time you get back to the hotel, and it's $10/day on your folio. Very easy. Felt very painless.

There's a little pool there, perfectly fun for kids, but you couldn't really swim laps in it. But my kids enjoyed it, and I had a little dip. This hotel is perfectly nice. I would stay here for business or pleasure, and feel very comfortable. It's hard to think of something special about it, because it's really just a Hilton Garden Inn! They're very similar, everywhere! But thankfully they are very nice. They had coffee in the lobby in the late afternoon, which was such a nice treat.

The best thing about this hotel is the location. Short walk to loads of good restaurants, and tiny walk to the CTA or Metra CNW line. You could stay here, take the train downtown, have a blast, and come back to lovely Evanston to sleep. So fun! And you can totally walk to the beach from this hotel with three little kids. They will only complain a small amount. But it's a nice walk through a very nice neighborhood.

I had a great stay, and I would love to stay there again.

The Hilton Garden Inn is two blocks from the downtown Evanston subway and commuter train stations, which makes it an excellent base of operations if you are traveling around the Chicago area via public transportation.

Evanston was the birthplace of the Women's Christian Temperance Union and the town was officially "dry" for decades. It now seems to have succumed to the temptations of demon rum, and alcoholic beverages are available in the hotel as well as the nearby restaurants and grocery stores.

My travel time from the hotel to O'Hare Airport via the subway was more than 2 hours, so give yourself plenty of time if you need to catch a flight.
