“Great hotel, Pool too cold to swim”

Hilton Garden Inn Evanston

The hotel has great rooms to stay in. Clean, large and comfotable. We were traveling with our four year old and stayed only at the hotel because of the pool. The pool was fridgid. Our son lasted 10 minutes before his lips turned blue and he couldn't stop shivering. The hot tub was too hot. We were hoping he could warm up in there but it was scalding hot water. We had an un-happy four year old.

We went to our room after the pool and got warmed up and the fire alarm proceeded to go off. We were not told if we should leave our rooms, there were no hotel staff to help direct or anything. We ended up going out to the hallway and making our way to the stairs when the alarm went off. We never saw a hotel staff person during the whol ordeal.

“Service and Value was wonderful”

Hilton Garden Inn Evanston

Arrived early following a flight from the east coast. The receptionist went out of her way to find us a room and allow us to check in early. The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable.

We had planned to tour the Northwestern campus that afternoon. Not sure as to how to get there, the front desk staff gave us maps and "local"information to make our visit easier. If that wasn't enough, the van driver volunteered to drive us to the campus despite having other things to do.
Finally, we had dinner at Coi, a superb restaruant recomended by the Hotel staff.

The next morning we were driving to the city and were unsure as to the best route. The front desk staff, despite being busy, printed a map using mapquest.

Overall, an excellent experience. Would and will return the next time I am in Evanston.

Evanston is a small town / uni campus type of place so there is limited choices when it comes down to reliable accommodation and this Hilton is certainly one of the them.

Stayed here for three nights and there really isn't anything that you can complain about (sure, the service was slow and un-responsive but it's expected of this chain based on my experience). It has a superb location, situated right on the main street and the parking will cost you but it's unlimited during the 24 hour period.

The rooms are clean and bed size is generous.

A tip for you --- if you come here during the summer weekends, do remember to visit the Farmers' market located in the parking lot behind the hotel. It has a cute warm mid-west feel to it. Enjoy.

Like another reviewer, I don't understand why there are not more (positive) reviews of this hotel. It is A-OK in all respects.

This was my first stay at this hotel, with my family over the holidays. It is relatively new, in excellent repair, and well-staffed.

For this class of hotel the breakfast buffet was especially good. (It is around $12, but as an HHonors diamond member I got two adult breakfasts for free.)

The only minor problems we had were:
1 - Our room (and I assume all rooms) have no external ventalation, including in the bathroom. So there was some mildew smell on the shower curtain. The room was spotlessless clean in all other respects. But if you must have truly fresh air in your room, this may not be the place for you.
2 - The pool was cold the first night. We mentioned this to staff, and they found and repaired a problem. But even after two days it was still on the cool side (they said it's normally kept at 80deg).

As a frequent visitor to Evanston, I would only consider staying elsewhere in the future if this hotel is not available. And especially relative to the Best Western -- I'll gladly pay the $20-$30 more per night, based on the (scary) look of the BW lobby alone!
