Evanston is a small town / uni campus type of place so there is limited choices when it comes down to reliable accommodation and this Hilton is certainly one of the them.

Stayed here for three nights and there really isn't anything that you can complain about (sure, the service was slow and un-responsive but it's expected of this chain based on my experience). It has a superb location, situated right on the main street and the parking will cost you but it's unlimited during the 24 hour period.

The rooms are clean and bed size is generous.

A tip for you --- if you come here during the summer weekends, do remember to visit the Farmers' market located in the parking lot behind the hotel. It has a cute warm mid-west feel to it. Enjoy.

Like another reviewer, I don't understand why there are not more (positive) reviews of this hotel. It is A-OK in all respects.

This was my first stay at this hotel, with my family over the holidays. It is relatively new, in excellent repair, and well-staffed.

For this class of hotel the breakfast buffet was especially good. (It is around $12, but as an HHonors diamond member I got two adult breakfasts for free.)

The only minor problems we had were:
1 - Our room (and I assume all rooms) have no external ventalation, including in the bathroom. So there was some mildew smell on the shower curtain. The room was spotlessless clean in all other respects. But if you must have truly fresh air in your room, this may not be the place for you.
2 - The pool was cold the first night. We mentioned this to staff, and they found and repaired a problem. But even after two days it was still on the cool side (they said it's normally kept at 80deg).

As a frequent visitor to Evanston, I would only consider staying elsewhere in the future if this hotel is not available. And especially relative to the Best Western -- I'll gladly pay the $20-$30 more per night, based on the (scary) look of the BW lobby alone!

My husband, older son, and I just returned from a 2 night stay at the Evanston Hilton Garden Inn. We couldn't have been more pleased. Our younger son is a student at Northwestern, and we had stayed at the Hotel Orrington on past visits. Adequate facility, but we found the staff, especially at the reception desk, cold and not accomodating (might I say rude?). The staff members at the Hilton Garden Inn, without exception, were warm and friendly, and had the answers to all our questions. Our rooms were spacious and clean, with nice amenities. Delicious cookies and coffee and punch could be found in the lobby every afternoon. Their location is near the downtown shopping and transportation hub, and only a short walk to the campus. For sure, this hotel will be our first choice from now on.

My sister and I stayed here for three nights so that she could revisit the area where she had spent a year at High School 40 years ago! This hotel was perfect for our needs. We were warmly welcomed when we arrived and our room was extremely comfortable. We rented a car and drove from O'Hare as we wanted to spend a full day driving round the area. However, on one day we took the El into Chicago and we found this very convenient and cheap. I chose Evanston because we wanted to be able to walk to a restaurant for dinner. There were lots of restaurants within easy walking distance as well as twoexcellent bookshops. This was a perfect place to stay. I imagine that prices fluctuate according to local events and our rate was not particularly cheap compared with what we paid last year at a HGI in Fairfax, Virginia, but all-in-all we were pleased with everything.
PS Last year we were given free breakfast each day, but when I asked for it this year I was told that my card (blue) did not entitle me to it. I think my card last year might have been a different colour.

Great hotel within walking distance to Northwestern Univ, shops and restaurants along Market St. and trains to Chicago. Clean, brand new, comfortable bedding, large modern bathroom, and large room with desk and easy chair. Friendly and helpful desk staff.
