My sister and I stayed here for three nights so that she could revisit the area where she had spent a year at High School 40 years ago! This hotel was perfect for our needs. We were warmly welcomed when we arrived and our room was extremely comfortable. We rented a car and drove from O'Hare as we wanted to spend a full day driving round the area. However, on one day we took the El into Chicago and we found this very convenient and cheap. I chose Evanston because we wanted to be able to walk to a restaurant for dinner. There were lots of restaurants within easy walking distance as well as twoexcellent bookshops. This was a perfect place to stay. I imagine that prices fluctuate according to local events and our rate was not particularly cheap compared with what we paid last year at a HGI in Fairfax, Virginia, but all-in-all we were pleased with everything.
PS Last year we were given free breakfast each day, but when I asked for it this year I was told that my card (blue) did not entitle me to it. I think my card last year might have been a different colour.

Great hotel within walking distance to Northwestern Univ, shops and restaurants along Market St. and trains to Chicago. Clean, brand new, comfortable bedding, large modern bathroom, and large room with desk and easy chair. Friendly and helpful desk staff.

“Great find”

Hilton Garden Inn Evanston

This newer property in the heart of downtown Evanston was a wonderful oasis. The staff couldn't have been more personable or helpful. The room was clean and spacious. It included a microwave, small refrigerator, etc. The breakfast buffet was a cross between those found at Embassy Suites, another Hilton property, and the more standard hotel breakfast buffets. It was delicious and the variety of foods offered would satisfy nearly any dietary need.

Our only complaint was with the self-serve garage parking. There is no direct access to the garage so guests must go outside and then up the elevator in the garage.

The location is perfect; it's next to the arts district and within walking distance of the numerous shops, restaurants, and Northwestern University.

“Reliably Consistent”

Hilton Garden Inn Evanston

Our son's a sophomore at Northwestern, so we've been to Evanston perhaps a dozen times in the past 2 years to see him and his mates on the soccer team in action. More than half the time we have stayed at the HGI, the balance at the Homestead. We were most recently there in mid October, and have stayed there in August, September, November and February. It is our hotel of choice in Evanston. It is more centrally located than the Homestead(if you're walking toPete's, Starbucks, or any of the downtown Evanston establishments), has better parking(in the adjacent parking garage), and has the added benefit of overlooking the Evanston Farmer's market immediately next door-a fall Saturday fixture that usually results in one or two additional items of hand luggage full of pies/wreaths/vegetables/mushrooms etc for the trip home to Miami. We have had nothing but consistently excellent experiences at this hotel-helpful responsive accomodating staff, excellent breakfasts at the hotel restaurant, clean, comfortable, odor -and smoke free rooms, which don't feel cramped and wi fi that works as it should. I don't consider staying here a bargain, but I do feel that I am getting my money's worth. A word of warning, however, for this hotel and any others in Evanston-if you're going during the fall, check the Northwestern football schedule--rooms fill up months in advance on weekends when the Wildcats are at home.

“Clean and comfortable”

Hilton Garden Inn Evanston

Stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn for Northwestern's Family Weekend. The room and bathroom were very clean and comfortable. We especially appreciated the business center for an opportunity to print boarding passes prior to the airport. Buffet breakfast in the lobby restaurant was reasonably priced with very good selections. Parking was only $10.00/day at an indoor garage right next door.
