I was in Chicago with my family (mother, father, s/o and baby) staying for 3 nights. We found this hotel through a deal my parents got when they bought their car. We paid $50/night which is a fantastic price to be so close to O'Hare and such easy access to downtown. Staying at Midway in the past, we've paid about $120 for only slightly better accomodations. We weren't sure what to expect as the price was so low and we'd never stayed near O'Hare. We were all pleasantly surprised.
The front desk gentleman was pleasant and accomadating throughout our stay. Slight language barrier, but nothing you couldn't work around. The "lobby" also serves as the breakfast area. They could do a bit more with the breakfast. You'll get cereal, toast, a few donuts to choose from, and juice & coffee. It's a nice way to start the day off for no cost, I'll say that much. The coffee was fresh, as was the bread for toast and the donuts.
The room was a standard motel/hotel style room. Very comfortable beds. Easily adjustable cooling system. The hair dryer and coffee maker in the bathroom did not work, but those were not important features to me, so I wasn't bothered. Housekeeping did NOT change the linens every night of our stay. If that is something you are picky about, I would recommend requesting new linens. We stayed 3 nights, and our sheets got changed once. They did not empty/replace a left out ice bucket either. Not a very thorough housekeeping job, which is probably my only real complaint with this hotel.
Location was perfect for what we were looking for. We are train takers-not big on driving in traffic. We took the hotel shuttle to and from the airport. It was about a 10 minute drive. From O'Hare it was about an hour to downtown Chicago. And a little less than an hour to Wrigley Field. The shuttle left the hotel on the hour, so we planned accordingly for the morning. No problems. In the evening we called from the airport and never waited more than 20 minutes.
Overall, for the money, this hotel surpassed my expectations. I would recommend it for anyone travelling to Chicago on a budget. If you don't mind the "commute" to the city, this is perfect for you.
