My wife and I stayed for three nights (three-for-two special!) just after Valentine's Day 2013 and had a wonderful visit in one of the loft cabins. Mike the owner is very pleasant and helpful, the cabins are pretty new (less than ten years or so) but rustic to just the right degree, and the woodsy setting is great. Fully functional kitchen complete with dishes, very cozy gas fireplace provided plenty of heat, everything clean and comfortable.
The picture shown at the head of this Trip Advisor listing is wrong - it shows what appears to be a cookie-cutter motel-chain front. Cedar Hill River Resort is NOT that: check out their web site
The local area is quite rural. Lots of meandering country roads on both sides of the Ohio River to enjoy. Cave-in-Rock and Elizabethtown, IL are nearest, and both are small river hamlets. No late-night groceries or dining for miles. For bigger-town amenities, take the Cave-in-Rock ferry into Kentucky - from there it's maybe 20 minutes down to Marion, KY. But be careful - especially in Kentucky on Sunday afternoon, you'll be sharing the road with a fair amount of Amish horse-and-buggy traffic.
