“Disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

Ate there this afternoon. My husband asked the server twice what kind of ribs were on the combo plate. She told us the combo ribs were babybacks. They were NOT. They were back ribs -- much less tender!

The building is very nice.

I loved the BBQ sauces, especially the sweet and country ones.

Pulled pork was good. Brisket was okay. Ribs were NOT tender and were NOT babybacks!! The meats DID have a good smoke flavor.

The twice baked potatoes were mashed potatoes with a few green onions and partially-cooked bacon. They were pretty good. The green beans were good, but I can make better myself. The baked beans weren't teriffic, could have been much better. And the cole slaw was poor. Make your own -- It's not that hard!

Just very disappointed in the ribs. Ribs should be a signature item at a BBQ smokehouse. Our server obviously was not educated in the difference in ribs, even though we point-blank asked her twice.

The cornbread piece was the equivalent of a half a muffin. Jiffy Mix makes much better cornbread. At first we thought the half piece was pretty chintzy. After tasting it, it was plenty.

To sum it up, having lived in the South, we continue our search for good BBQ. WIth a few simple changes, this place could have been great.

Oh, and don't be in a hurry. There was only a table of two in there and us, and it took almost 25 minutes to get our food.

“Good family restaurant near Lake Sara”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

Witts has a variety of smoked meats on the menu, I have found the chicken to be consistently good. The ribs can be a little greasy. The beef brisket is my second favorite. The side dishes are all pretty good especially the green beans and carrots. Witts veggie pizza is the best in the area as it is loaded with olives, sweet red pepper and mushrooms. It's a nice option if you aren't into the smoked meats. My biggest complaint is the bbq sauce which is very sweet and does not add a thing to the flavor of the entrees. They would be wise to back away from putting sauce on almost everything.

This is a very kid-friendly restaurant especially when the beer garden is open and the little ones can play outside.

“Don't bother going out of your way.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2012 via mobile

Dined here after reading other reviews. Ordered fried pickles; they came out very hot with practically no breading - huge order though. Each of us had the 2 meat combo - 1 with ribs, chicken, green beans and Mac & cheese. The beans were the best part of that plate. The ribs were mostly fat and gristle. Chicken was moist, but BBQ sauce was bad. 2nd plate was pulled pork, chicken, corn and potato salad, which one reviewer really liked. White meat was very good - moist; corn was next best thing on plate. Pulled pork was not warm at all and potato salad was blah. Wanted to eat the corn bread, but was so dry it fell apart as soon as we picked it up! Don't bother....poor food, poor value.

“Well....at least the dessert was good”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012

We decided to try this BBQ place since we have rode by it many times, neat looking place, like a log cabin. We went in with another couple, grabbed a table and ordered appetizers...which was a sampler platter consisting of mozzarella sticks, mushrooms and onion shreds?? We thought it would be big enough for us 4, hahahaha..it had 3 mozzarella sticks, 6 mushrooms and a handful of onions shreds. Are you kidding for $10.99?

ok, next was our entree, I had ordered Philly steak and cheese and my wife a chef's salad. The food finally came about 30 minutes later and there was only us and maybe 4-6 other people there. Service is slooowwwww. The Philly was overcooked and had no taste UNTIL I added bbq sauce, my wife's salad was lettuce out of a bag b/c it had the typical lettuce, shredded carrots and the purple cabbage in it and then they threw on some meat and a hard boiled egg. Ridiculous!!

So that was pitiful, we gave them one more chance and ordered dessert. I had cherry cheesecake and my wife peanut butter pie. They were very good but they should be for $3.25 each. I doubt if we go back!
