I arrived about 3pm on a Monday afternoon to find the place locked up. After ringing the door bell twice, I was finally admitted to, well, what can hardly be described as a welcome. It took some time to convince the person I was speaking to (I never did discover who exactly she was) that I did indeed have a room reservation...There are, shall we say, some slight discrepancies between the impression given by the 'Black Horse' website (traditional Old English hostelry etc.,etc...) and the dreary and charmless reality of the place. The most that can be said of the 'Black Horse' is that at least as a place to crash out for the night, it was cheap, though the same can hardly be said of the vile and unedible cooked breakfast at an outrageous £12 for two supplement. And this in the land of the Gloucester Old Spot...value pack sausages and bacon - unforgiveable!
