I stayed at the HGI for a business meeting. I was pretty much happy with everything except for strongly-chlorinated water which ruined the taste of the in-room coffee- this seems to be a problem in a lot of places I've stayed lately.

The pool was great and the reason I mentioned family-friendliness- there was a separate children's pool with fountains, beach balls and enough styrofoam "noodles" and water wings to keep a whole grade school class happy. Having dodged many children in my travels through hotel pools (and I dont' mind because they're so fun to watch), I think it's nice that they have a place of their own here. The pool area WAS extremely noisy, even with me as the sole occupant- ceramic tile walls did not absorb the sound of the fountains and the music blasting over the sounds of the fountains. There's also a well-equipped Fitness Center.

Meeting facilities were fine, in-room high-speed Internet was truly plug-and-play (and included in room price). Wireless available in meeting rooms, which I appreciated. Food at an hors d'oeuvres reception one evening and the catered meeting meals were good.

Shuttles to and from O'Hare run only every half hour but it's so close to the airport (one mile, pert MapQuest) a taxi shouln't be too expensive if you're in a hurry.

It is a nice new hotel. Good for business traveler but not luxurious by any means. I think the bed spreads are ugly not that it matters. I loved all the available outlets for charging all my gadgets. The pool for kids looked great it had a mushroom waterfall and lots of balls. Seemed like a good place for children.

Stayed at this hotel prior to an early flight to San Juan the next morning. We were very very pleased with the customer service at the front desk, the shuttle drivers and all staff at this fine hotel. Definitely worth every cent even tho the price is not out of line for the area. Room was clean, new, and everything you would want from a quality hotel. Shuttle service to Ohare was every half hour, was on time and very courteous. We kept our car there and the week we were gone there was a huge snowstorm. When we came back to pick up our car from the parking lot, the attendants had cleaned off our car and shoveled so we could get out. What can I say? Will be back to this same hotel next year.

“Always a pleasure”

I've stayed here twice already for my bi-annual conferences held at the hotel. Out of all the hotels I've been to for nationwide conferences, this has been my favorite. Ultra clean, very roomy even for a double queen room, thick quiet walls, nice TV channel selection, dorm size frig (large enough to hold Giordano medium deep dish takeout box) and microwave, carpets are spotless, room service is flawless, the business room is great (fax/copy machine/printer/2 PC's/shoe buffing machine), the fitness room is a great touch and sufficient for the average joe. No problems with the swimming pool, have an adult pool, hot whirlpool, and kiddie pool. The staff are great, and very accommodating. The free courtesy shuttle is available every half hour to transport between O'Hare and the hotel, even drops you off at certain restaurants along the way like Giordano's deep dish pizza's. The hotel restaurant is very good and delicious but pricey. The only issue I have with this hotel is that the breakfast isn't free, it should be, considering the price and high quality of the hotel. I recommend booking directly with the hotel website for best price. $89/night is a bargain, I've paid $150 for similar quality hotel. You won't find a better quality vs price hotel in the O'Hare area.

I stayed at the hotel over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, and I have to say that it is a GREAT place to stay in Chicago? Why? Because it's pretty easy to find, it's CHEAP, ultra-clean (and I mean, ultra-clean), and close to transit. Everyone there from the desk clerk to the cleaning staff were always smiling and friendly, and extremely helpful.

The hotel has a van that will take you to the nearby Blue Line station (about a mile away), and will pick you up when you come back. It's an easy way to get into the city (it takes about 45 minutes to get to the Loop). The rooms were absolutely spotless. I could have performed surgery in there, they were so clean. Nice layout, comfortable beds, and the room has mini-fridge and microwave oven. There's a "business center" in the hotel you can use to check email, surf the net (great way to find out about local restaurants and tours, which is what we did), and fax things. There is a pool and workout facilities, though we didn't explore them.

There's also a dining area in the hotel, which is actually pretty necessary, because though there's a ton of hotels in that immediate vicinity, there is hardly ANY restaurants, especially for breakfast places. Though if you don't care, there is a McDonald's about a mile down the road if you want a fast and cheap breakfast. Otherwise, head down Touhy or Devon back towards Skokie and Chicago, and you'll find restaurants.

We used to stay in Skokie at the Holiday Inn, but a room there was more than $150 a night ... a room at the Hilton Garden Inn, which I found to be much cleaner and overall nicer, was about $80 a night. Big difference! And even though the hotel is right next to the highway and right around the corner from the airport, it was very quiet. I never heard a plane until I was outside.

This hotel is a GREAT value for Chicago! I'd give it more stars if I could. We'll stay there from now on for all our Chicago trips.
