“Chillin' at the Holiday Innnnn”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2007

My daughter and I stayed here while she participated in a volleyball tournament at the Sky High facilities. We stayed for two days during the weekend the area experienced blizzard-like conditions. The hotel is not bad, but it is not above average either. First, the good things about the hotel: the room was clean, the beds were comfortable and the bathroom was updated with good lighting. The lobby was pleasant and well-lit. I noticed they had a couple of computers set up with internet access. Nice touch. Next, the bad things about the hotel: the bathroom is not big enough for two people. It was very frustrating trying to get ready in the morning and maneuver in and around the bathroom. The breakfast at the hotel was disappointing. They didn't offer a good variety. For example, one day it was eggs and the next day pancakes. The only other breakfast offering both days was toast and cold cereal. It is fair to note that our group had an arrangement with the hotel to have a conference room set up for breakfast with dedicated service. We did not eat in the hotel restaurant and cannot comment on how good or bad the food is there. Overall, this hotel is not bad and does meet my minimum daily requirements. However, if I were choosing a hotel and I was not part of a large group, I probably would have stayed at another local hotel.

  • Liked — Proximity to restaurants and to highway
  • Disliked — Small size of bathroom

Based on the reviews I read, it is exactly what we expected. The room was very clean and well maintained. One minor thing in the bathtub, the stopper was missing. The carpeting in the lobby and the stairway going down to the pool and fitness center is in serious need of cleaning or replacement. The fountain that was under the stairway was empty, if they are not going to use it why not use the space for something.
They were nice enough to allow our group to use one of the boardrooms for a place to meet and order pizza.
Overall the experience was very good.

I recently spent a weekend with my family at the Holiday Inn in Crystal lake, Il. I normally stay at Hilton hotels (I am a Hilton Honors member) but seeing there weren't any in the area, we chose the Holiday Inn. The service and quality of the hotel was exceptional. The staff was very helpful, and always friendly. The healthclub was much larger than that of most hotels, and my kids loved the pool area. The rooms were neat, clean and comfortably fit my family of four. I would definitely stay here again!

Recently went to the Holiday Inn, at Cary, Il (Crystal Lake) with my family for the CABA Ultimate World Series. Upon arrival the Hotel appeared neat and clean and well located for the events.
The staff was polite but uninformed as to the event it was hosting. You would get different answers for the same questions from different staff members at the hotel desk.

The rooms were nicely furnished and clean. The two double bed rooms are to small to accomodate two average sized adults or teenagers. Closet space is small and inadequate for a family of four staying for eleven days. Laundry facilities are inadequate for this size of hotel as well. Especially for sporting events where laundry needs to be done a couple of times during the stay.
For rooms with the two double beds only 3 towel sets were given. Had to make repeated requests for four towel sets.

The included breakfast with the room was terrible. Many times the food was way overcooked and bland. The breakfast staff was cordial and polite.

Room refrigerators or microwaves were not standard in the rooms which would have been nice. We were placed on a waiting list and never did get one.

The last item was the recreational facilities. The hotel has the best exercise facilities of any hotel I've been to. The pool was a little disappointing though. It was indoor. Having 90+ heat with an indoor pool makes no sense. We used the pool only once as it was like a sauna in the pool room.

All in all this was an average stay. The biggest ding for this hotel is the lack of queen beds in the family guest rooms and the poor quality of the breakfasts. The rest of the stuff we could have lived with and did. If in Crystal Lake for baseball next year look for one of the hotels with the amenities that help make the trip easier. Just because this was the host hotel for the tournament did'nt give it any advantage in my opinion. There was no advantage to staying at the Holiday Inn.

Stayed in this hotel on a sad trip lately but the hotel really made it easier.

The rooms were larger, cleaner, brighter and more comfortable than those in the "4 star" hotel we had downtown. Bed was wonderful.

Staff were so helpful and accommodating from check in to check out and all the way through. Food was affordable and good quality.

Good facilities all round. Would suggest they narrow the gaps in the railings from the ground floor overlooking the lower floor/gym area, we saw a 2 year old almost squeeze herself through, scary stuff!

Stayed a Friday night no problems - great room. Saturday night had 3 fire alarms during the night - 1 am; 2:45 am and 8 am Each time the fire alarm went off the fire department had to come out and check things out to turn alarm off it took 15-20 minutes. The first one I went outside from the sixth floor b/c I thought it was real; the other two I stayed in the room and listened to the very loud constant alarm for the time period. The hotel was very full and there was a large amount of kids there with some adults for a soccer tournament. Parents should supervise their children and not let them play on the elevators and pull alarms and the hotel staff should do something when they see these kids roaming about during early hours. On Sunday morning when everyone was checking out bills were adjusted by 50% for the Saturday night stay. It is a nice hotel but one of the worst nights of sleep I have ever had or rather not had.

The service in the restaurant was great, the room was clean and the pool was very nice. There is a large deck off the pool and the some of the spindles on it were loose. It could be a huge safety issue for small children. (which we have) The drop off of the deck is at least 15 feet. I asked 2 times for a repair and it was still not fixed after 3 days.
