“Mix of Old and New”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2011

The view of the property from the long road was spectacular. There is a lake that is right next to the hotel and it's a beautiful setting. When we walked into the reception area the people behind the counter were very friendly. The reception area was beautiful and had a great old feel to it. Once checked in, you could find the modernization just on the other side of reception. There was a sitting area that had some great old items on the walls but the area itself was more up to date with current furniture. It was a great area, but not really a "castle" feel to it. The room was nice for a 4* hotel.

The Drawing Room was a great place to relax and have a pint of Guinness. The restaurant was very comfortable and the staff were very nice. We ate breakfast in the restaurant and they had a great assortment of fruits, yogurts, cereals and pastries. The hot food was also included in the continental with eggs, bacon, sausage and others.

The property had a few walking trails where you could walk around the lake or just take a leisurely stroll to a couple of viewing points. It was very quiet outside and relaxing.

We wished it had been more old style but for this review it was a great place to stay. We were only there for one night overall.

Kilronan Castle Hotel was just that...a hotel. While the room was large, immaculately clean and sumptuous looking, it quickly became apparent that the quality was not there. The bed was large and comfortable enough, but the noise in the room was annoying throughout the evening. Two "chandeliers" grace the room, but the vibration from the heating system (which was noisy in and of itself) rattled the plastic beading and baubles creating a constant hum. If you climbed up on a chair you could attempt to quiet the vibrating parts, but after a while they'd shift and it would begin again. The shower was cheap and tiny. There was no place to put your soap, shampoo or washcloth. It was literally just a stall with a shower head. The jacuzzi tub was useless as it was small, VERY loud and the stopper on the tub did not form a seal. The water leaked out just about as quickly as it was filled. We upgraded for a spa service while we were there, but due to our late arrival and early departure, we did not get to take advantage of his service. If I had been more impressed with the hotel, I may have wanted to try the spa, but the quality of the room put the spa services in question.

I spent 3 nights here as part of a wedding party. The word 'castle' had conjured up visions of lots of character but dark dingy rooms. Actually this is a combination of the historic building with a modern but sympathetic extension. So the rooms are perfect - not sumptuous but clean, comfy and with all the bits you'd expect; while the setting and main building are traditional and full of character. I also witnessed the care and attention the wedding planner seemed to be paying to the bride & groom - which of course they were paying for, but there was a wedding on both days following the one we were there for, and so I admired how personal they managed to make it feel. My only gripe would be that some of the service was patchy - and given the size of our party and that we were staying for 3 nights, not being able to get so much as a sandwich in the bar or our rooms late one night seemed a bit rubbish.

My husband and I stayed for two nights in the Castle in September 2011. From the moment we checked in it was a wonderful stay. We stayed in the newer part of the castle and the room did not disappoint. The bed was the most comfortable we have ever slept in and our bathroom was really beautiful with a separate shower and bath. There was also a fridge in the room which was handy for chilling water. However the best was yet to come! The food in the Douglas Hyde restaurant was absolutely fantastic and the waiting staff were friendly, knowledgeable and very efficient. Breakfast was also very good although on the second morning there was quite a lot of people and I felt there were too little staff on duty. Unfortunately the spa was booked out on the times we wanted which was a shame as it looked fantastic so I would strongly recommend anyone wanting to partake in spa treatments to book them well in advance. Overall an absolutely wonderful experience and we cant wait to go back to Kilronan Castle!!

My bother got married here recently and had a wonderful wedding with the beautiful surrounding of the castle and then the castle itself with its lovely spa and pool but what really got me was the excellent standard of service we received. I was the best man (nervous best man) and all I got was support from the guys working there no matter of the strangest of request I had, from doing a rehearsal with the mic, to helping set up a slide show and the tree(all part of the speech). They helped me get through it with such understanding and speed, so this is also a big thank you, especially Taroon Misrey, Cerenna Reynolds and Olivia.
We have been there since at another wedding, where they remembered us and really looked after us again from a chat to finding my coat I lost in the early hours (Cheers Taroon).
So just if your thinking of a wedding here, BOOK IT.

Attended a wedding reception there, and had a really enjoyable day. It is a gorgeous venue, and looked good even in miserable weather. The meal was delicious from start to finish, and a good lively night followed. Our room was absolutely luxurious, with the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Breakfast next morning was lovely, and more fresh food was still being brought out even when it was nearly time to stop serving.
The only thing that spoiled the experience was that a cistern in the gents toilet was leaking and the floors in both cubicles were soaking wet. This was the case from when my husbansd first went in, and it continued for the whole day.I would have expected this to be dealt with right away, as it is a very expensive venue, much more expensive than most other hotels.

The drive up to the castle is breathtaking and the Castle itself is amazing. Very friendly and helpful staff and this continued thoughout our stay. We were there for a wedding and the attention to detail was second to none-brilliant. Our room was big and clean and the bathroom was amazing. A big jacuzzi bath - but with no instructions on how to use it. I was surprised to see there were no tea and coffee facilities in the room. On arrival we found the room very appealing. When I stood near the bed I could feel a vibrating feeling under my feet - as if we were above some machine room. As we were on the 4th floor we found this odd. When we sat on the bed it had a feeling you were on a boat . a Hum and a feeling you were sitting next to a machine. we had a great time at the wedding but when we arrived back at the room the humming was still there. The light fittings on the ceiling were also shaking. We thought this funny until we tried to sleep. it was impossible. We called down to reception at about 5am and a very nice porter arrived up. he noticed the noise from the ceiling lights straight away and after a while adjusted them so the noise stopped. He also could not explain the vibrating bed and floor (Not very nice) but he could not give us a new room. I asked him to take a note of this. After a night of no sleep at all we mentioned it on checking out. No note had been made and we were made to feel as if we were dreaming it all. They said they never had a complaint like this before but a numer of guests felf the same thing as we did when we asked them to check our room. I was dissapointed with the outcome but it would not stop me staying here again. I would check out the room first. Beautiful Hotel.
