“The Best Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

As stated by many other reviewers, this is one of the BEST LOCATIONS for exploring downtown Chicago. I literally walked everywhere..i.e. Michigan Ave host to Millenium Mile shopping district, the Navy Pier, State street that hosts one of the largest Macy's stores with a Tiffany glass ceiling, Grant Park-Chicago's front yard, and Millenium Park host of the Bean.

Ok back to the hotel, the staff was very gracious, inviting and helpful, the lobby and rooms gives a very nostalgic feel of the 1920's. High ceilings, long drapery and very cozy. The rooms are not as modern as I would've liked, but I didn't spend much time in the room. The bed was very comfy. I will be returning next year and staying at the Silversmith. The only drawback is the high cost of parking $56 a night. But I took the El train, which I highly recommend, from the airport which stops right at the hotel (Madison/Wabash).

Room Tip: If you're just going for a vaca, you won't need a car staying at Silversmith.

WE chose this hotel after reading trip adviser reviews anf got an internet special deal. We got a room away from the EL and on the newly renovated 10 floor. It was lovely and the bed and bedding yummy comfy. the location is great. You can walk anywhere. There was a nice complementary continental breakfast. The only down side was parking. the valet parking was over 60$so we used a self parking lot on e. Monroe which was $44. Interesting to note, the Palmer validated for the same lot. I think the Silversmith should do this ,too

Room Tip: away fro the EL and higher up. the 10th floor was just renovated and our room was lovely

Thanks for the comments on your recent stay here at the Silversmith. We're happy to know you enjoyed your stay in one of our new rooms. Regarding parking, we do offer valet parking with door to door service and multiple in/outs for $56 per night. There are parking garages located located within walking distance offering hourly rates with one time in/one time out options. The Palmer House also offers valet parking at $69 per night. Thanks again for your feedback and we hope to see you again in the future!

I came on Thursday morning around 10am from NC. I had requested an early check in but my room wasn't ready until 2pm so that was a bummer. However the room was worth the wait!! Beautiful modern rooms that were spacious and very clean. The location is the best!! Around lots of shopping and food and two parks within a 5 minute walk!! I will stay here again. We enjoyed the taste of Chicago on our first visit.

We picked this hotel based on other reviews as we had never visited Chicago before and we were not disappointed with our choice. The staff were all very friendly, especially the concierge who always greeted us even if we were just walking past the hotel. Based on other reviews, we had requested a quiet room to be away from the noise of the L train and we were given a suite on a high floor at the back of the hotel which, although it did not have a great view, was very peaceful and quiet. The suite was large and very comfortable, the only slight criticism that we had was that we were only provided with tea/coffee and toiletries for one person.

When we arrived we were given a list of restaurants close by which, as newbies to the city, was very helpful. There is a restaurant attached to the hotel but we only had breakfast there on our first morning. The food was very good but the restaurant was very large and, because there were few other people eating there, it did not have much atmosphere.

The hotel is very convenient for exploring Chicago with an L train stop close by. Later in our trip we met another English couple who had stayed at the Palmer House which was our other choice. After hearing their comments, we're glad that we picked the Silversmith.

Staff is friendly and efficient. Arrived at 8 am and front desk Vanessa allowed us to do early check-in. Valet parking is expensive but worth it if you need to go in and out of the hotel. Parking staff always have a happy face. We stayed at a king suite that had a separate room which allowed privacy for us and our kids. Air conditioning was good. Room was clean. Location is great for shopping , dining and for visiting the Art Institute of Chicago. Felt safe to walk around. It's a classy hotel.

I stayed two nights and this was the biggest nicest room I have ever had in Chicago for the Neocon Show. The free Wifi was great. I had a King bed, separate sitting room and HUGE bathroom. I really liked that they gave me a guide to nearby restaurants when I came in on Sunday night. A great value, I would like to come back next year. The L trains did not bother me at all on the back side of the building. I liked finding an empty cold refrigerator in the room. Those packed hotel mini bars never have room for drinks I like to pick up at Walgreens, leftovers, or your favorite yogurt.
