“Great location, close to lots of shopping and grant and millenium park..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013 via mobile

I came on Thursday morning around 10am from NC. I had requested an early check in but my room wasn't ready until 2pm so that was a bummer. However the room was worth the wait!! Beautiful modern rooms that were spacious and very clean. The location is the best!! Around lots of shopping and food and two parks within a 5 minute walk!! I will stay here again. We enjoyed the taste of Chicago on our first visit.

We picked this hotel based on other reviews as we had never visited Chicago before and we were not disappointed with our choice. The staff were all very friendly, especially the concierge who always greeted us even if we were just walking past the hotel. Based on other reviews, we had requested a quiet room to be away from the noise of the L train and we were given a suite on a high floor at the back of the hotel which, although it did not have a great view, was very peaceful and quiet. The suite was large and very comfortable, the only slight criticism that we had was that we were only provided with tea/coffee and toiletries for one person.

When we arrived we were given a list of restaurants close by which, as newbies to the city, was very helpful. There is a restaurant attached to the hotel but we only had breakfast there on our first morning. The food was very good but the restaurant was very large and, because there were few other people eating there, it did not have much atmosphere.

The hotel is very convenient for exploring Chicago with an L train stop close by. Later in our trip we met another English couple who had stayed at the Palmer House which was our other choice. After hearing their comments, we're glad that we picked the Silversmith.

Staff is friendly and efficient. Arrived at 8 am and front desk Vanessa allowed us to do early check-in. Valet parking is expensive but worth it if you need to go in and out of the hotel. Parking staff always have a happy face. We stayed at a king suite that had a separate room which allowed privacy for us and our kids. Air conditioning was good. Room was clean. Location is great for shopping , dining and for visiting the Art Institute of Chicago. Felt safe to walk around. It's a classy hotel.

I stayed two nights and this was the biggest nicest room I have ever had in Chicago for the Neocon Show. The free Wifi was great. I had a King bed, separate sitting room and HUGE bathroom. I really liked that they gave me a guide to nearby restaurants when I came in on Sunday night. A great value, I would like to come back next year. The L trains did not bother me at all on the back side of the building. I liked finding an empty cold refrigerator in the room. Those packed hotel mini bars never have room for drinks I like to pick up at Walgreens, leftovers, or your favorite yogurt.

We decided in favor of this hotel not because we wanted something flashy but because of its landmark status and its central location - and it did not let us down! The service was friendly and efficient, and we were just around the corner from State St and other attractions. Subway right outside the hotel came in handy, too! We would book this place again anytime.

We loved this place! For exploring downtown Chicago, you can't ask for a better location. Many attractions are within walking distance. Millenium Park is one block away as is the Bank of America theater for Broadway shows. At check-in we were greeted warmly and given a map & book of information/discounts. The bellman and doormen greeted us each time we entered or left the hotel. I liked the special touch of having citrus infused water in the lobby for guests. Our room was 814 - in the back of the hotel to minimize train noise. The period (1920's) details of the lobby, hallways, & rooms are beautiful. The high ceiling in our room really added to the sense of space. The only negative I can think of was the dim lighting in the room, but we spent most of our time outside of our room so it barely registers as a negative. We didn't eat at Ada's but will the next time. So many good places to eat within a short walk. The brown/orange line (Midway) Madison/Wabash stop of the L is steps from the hotel entrance. The blue line direct to O'Hare is around the corner from the BoA theater, about a 40-45 minute ride. There is a CVS on the corner of Monroe and Wabash for incidentals. The river architecture boat tours are easily reached by walking over one block to Michigan Ave then up towards Wacker - the different boat companies are located at different points along the river. We used Shoreline and really enjoyed it. Twice we must have looked noticeably lost and people actually stopped us to offer help which was most unexpected and appreciated! Chicago really is an easy city to navigate once you get the hang of it. The beauty of it has to be seen in person to appreciate it - there are green spaces I didn't expect in such an urban setting. We loved our first trip to Chicago and plan to stay at Silversmith when we visit again.

Room Tip: As mentioned in other reviews, rooms towards back of hotel are more shielded from train noise.
