“Silversmith is an affordable gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2012

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Silversmith. The hotel was more affordable than most in the area and was so nice. It was lovely and felt so safe and secure. We were able to check in very early and were given a room upgrade. We stayed in a King suite and it was very large. The bathroom had a large stall shower and a tub. It was a large, beautiful bathroom. The suite was very clean and comfortable. It looked just like the online pictures.
The staff was wonderful. They were all friendly and very accommodating. Our visit to the city was better thanks to the recommendations of the front desk!
The location was terrific. So close to sights and public transit.
We would definitely stay there again!

Silversmith Hotel is centrally located. We were there for four days- walked to art museum, marina, shopping, and multitude of great restaurants. The lobby was beautiful, the suite was spacious and clean, the staff was super friendly and helpful and welcoming to small children. We could hear the EL but it was no more than the sound of the air conditioning. There was absolutely no sound between rooms. Two huge flat screen TV's. Valet parking is pricey but we used Spothero instead and got a great deal within a block of the hotel.

Stayed here on a trip where we took the amtrack into Chicago. Located near touristy areas in walking distance, and near red line L train subway and other elevated L lines right outside the hotel door. That is the only concern, even with a back facing room you will hear slightly the train arriving, so if you are a light sleeper maybe look a block east or west of wahbash. But I didn't notice it and slept great.

Room was just my style: I like a large bed area and a large bathroom area. None of that sitting hallway or side mini lounge chair area, it is just wasted space. A bathroom with plenty of room for 2 people to easily share and not shimmy around is more important than an extra chair I'm going to use to throw a coat on or rest a bag. The window seating was a nice touch and overall the wood look to the entire hotel was very nice and pleasing.

Cost was probably on par to what you have to pay in this area, so not a great value in my idea, but I'm sure we spent much less and had a much more interesting and characterized unique room than made our stay that much more enjoyable than at the Hilton where we stayed years ago and after the glamorous enterence lobby we stayed in a room that looked the same as a interstate side chain lodging place.

So summary:

Would stay here again without hesitation, would like to pay a little less but I bet the rate we got was very reasonable for the area. If you are a light sleeper, go east or west of this street, but it didn't bother my wife or I in the least.

Spent a few days there on a tour of the U.S.A. and it was a great choice for the following reasons:

Location - a short walk to the magnificent mile and parks. The trains were outside the door which could take you anywhere you desire.(A train from the airport cost just $2.25 and a 300 yard walk saved on an expensive taxi transfer...)

Room - Loads of space, clean, air con, big beds and free safe deposit box.

Security - 24 staff outside the hotel always gave you confidence you safe. A number of beggars were evident but this is expected in most affluent cities but no unsavory related issues to report.

Restaraunt/bar- Decent choice for breakfast and drink but many available if not to your taste, ideal place for us to start the day/night.

Chicago - Fantastic... great bars, restaraunts and locations to visit - the expedia 'greeter' is highly recommended to provide a f.o.c. lesson on its history and culture.

We loved this place!

The rooms are very, very clean and comfortable and most furnishings are up-to date with the exception of the phone we had. It was a beige cordless phone from the late 80s/ early 90s. They recently updated their TVs. The picture in our first room was the best I've ever seen in a hotel regardless of price. It was true HD and beautiful on certain channels. Too bad there's so much to do in CHI to keep you out of your room. I say first room as the AC failed in our room the last day and we had to switch to another, larger and even more awesome room featuring jacuzzi tub and separate walk-in shower. I agree with others that you should ask for a room as far away from the L as possible as it is loud. The first room we had was on floor 10 on the L side. Very loud! The second room was on the backside on floor 10 and virtually no sound carried through. Also the second room would not display HD channels, so there went our insane picture.

On the staff, you could not ask for better service! I have not had this level of service at Disney resorts which pride themselves on their service. Each and every encounter, from door men to housekeeping was terrific. There was one house keeper, in particular, who made it a point to say hi and make our 4 year old son giggle everyday. Yes folks, its the little things that make a BIG difference.

If you like the Loop area, this place is number 1 for value and service. if you like the north end of downtown the L is easy access (30 feet from front door) but you'll need to hit the Red Subway which was usually overcrowded, so get a cab esp during baseball season.

We are definitely staying again and making this our place of choice for this end of downtown Chicago!

Visited for 4 nights last week and had a great time- Hotel staff are fantastic! Very friendly and willing to help us out-of town folk navigate around their city. Hotel is next to the "L" within a block of all the bus stops and in the middle of the "Loop". I will definately use this again when I come back.

Stayed here for five nights and thought the beds were very comfortable. The room decor needed a little help but that is honestly not a big deal. We were upgraded to a nicer room for the same price once we arrived. Staff was great. They responded immediately if called. Within walking distance to many attractions.

Room Tip: We had view of a rooftop in 507 but to be honest it isn't that big of a deal. I don' t think...
