“Boutique hotel in a great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

The Allerton is located in a great area on Michigan Ave. The staff was also friendly and accommodating. This is an older boutique hotel, so rooms are extremely small. Don't expect to have a King Size bed in your room. You will get an uncomfortable Queen at most. The elevators are SO SLOW its ridiculous. You have to stand and wait 10 minutes just to get to your room.

We booked our room through Priceline so we weren't sure what to expect with some of the mixed reviews of the Allerton. We were very pleasantly surprised. Now I will caveat this with saying our first night a "standard" room is considered a queen or full bed. We lucked out and got the full version. The mattress was terrible and was so hard it actually hurt my ribs to sleep on my stomach. So word to the wise, check in early, and aim for a room on higher floors as they are changing out beds and other things from the top down, or so I was told.

That said, the next morning the staff was extremely helpful. We got bumped to a King room with an excellent view and nicer bed for no charge. Tracee has been mentioned on here a few times but I'll mention her again, she bumped us to a suite for our last day as the hotel was fairly empty. Working with Tracee was so nice and she was so accommodating. All of the staff here was very accommodating with any issue we had. The fitness center is quite nice although it's a bit inconvenient to get to. Excellent location for shopping, restaurants, entertainment, etc. All and all an excellent stay despite the initial hiccup. The staff is what really makes this place worth every penny. The Allerton is for sure on our short list of places to stay in Chicago. Another favorite that has similar decor is the Allegro down in the Loop on Randolph. Both are great service driven hotels.

Room Tip: Higher rooms have newer beds, or so I was told. Just ask and they are likely to move you to a better...

Pros: GREAT location and very friendly, helpful staff.

Cons: Tiny room, paint chipping off the walls, visible white stains on the chair (gag), small & slow elevator's that can only fit about 5 people at a time (waited 5+ minutes each time), $60 valet (book advance through park whiz at a garage a couple blocks down for $36 per night)

Just a memorable stay.

We already loved Allerton because it has a special place in our hearts.

We had our honeymoon there.

We flew from Stockholm to Chicago to celebrate our 5 years anniversary at Allerton this December !

They were so kind to inform us that they had records of where we stayed for 5 years ago and they gave us a complimentary upgrade to the very same suite we stayed in.

We were right back on memory lane.......very grateful.

But Christmas came earlier this year as we meet this amazing service minded Tracee Moore in the reception and she was so truly generous to make our stay even better as she upgraded us to a specialty suite at the top floor overlooking Magnificent Mile.

Only problem.....well we got so spoiled with the level of service that we always will have to stay at Allerton when we go back to our Chicago.

Can truly say that we never ever have experienced such a high level of service from any other hotel staff,

Thank you Tracee for the quality of guest service, you truly make Allerton our 2nd home in the windy city.

Anja & Scott

Room Tip: High up and preferable overlooking the Magnificent Mile

i had a recent business trip to the Allerton. The location is excellent, and I was able to take advantage of the fitness center as well as the very accommodating concierge, who stored my bags for 4 hours before my flight. The highlight of the trip, however, was Tracy, a guest services employee who went above and beyond to make sure my stay was both enjoyable and convenient. She helped with printing boarding passes, getting a refrigerator in the room and was as friendly and engaging as she was professional. If every hotel had a Tracy helping its guests, the world would be a wonderful place! Thank you Tracy!

I have stayed at this location 3 times in the last two years. Unfortunately all have been on business. But its location is perfect and the rooms have all been immaculate. The service is great and everyone is very friendly. The only downside is that valet parking is right at sixty dollars per night.. This was a great hotel that allowed you to enjoy all the benefits of downtown Chicago. Walking distance to everything from famous Pizza, Shopping, coffee and even a Walgreens for anything you may have forgot. If you are looking for a large hotel, with a large accommodating lobby this is not for you. I am not even sure if they have a pool or fitness because my short time in Chicago I didn't look for those things... Fun little bar on the second floor. Sort of a hidden gem

Standard room is a shoe box. If the bathroom door is open you can not move around. There was a large clump of hair in the shower and a piece of bacon on the bathroom floor. The location is perfect which is why I still rated it high. Also the staff so friendly and you can check your bag before checking in and they bring it to the room.
