“A quiet refuge after a day in Chicago”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2010

This was a great location for accessing the red line which took us to Wrigley Field. One block form Michigan Ave and walking distance to the Navy Pier. Being a suite hotel, we had room to relax after jam filled days sightseeing. Room was very quiet and the staff was very helpful making reservations. They gave us a late checkout which allowed us to visit the aquarium the morning we left. By serving a free breakfast, we did not have to get ou just to eat before getting ready to leave for the day.

Location couldn't be better between the heart of downtown and Millenium Park, close to subway and bus stops. Easy to either walk or take mass transit. Good size kitchen, free internet. The breakfast was substantial, not just coffee and pastry. The free dinners offered during the week looked like standard fare but ample so a good budget choice if you traveling with family. Chicago has so many great restaurants that I never ate dinner at the hotel. Only oddity is the lobby is on an upper floor, not street level but because of that the rooms are all on higher floors so I had a great view of Chicago skyscrapers.

OK, so the sofa bed got stuck in mid pull out. Result, better room and corner to boot! Many thanks to Jonah (a humble, gracious bellhop with a hearty laugh) who helped us "lobby" for a different room, rather than wait on engineering to fix the sofa when it was obvious it would take much longer than 4 very tired travelers should have to endure. Room 1018 has one of the best views in the building - TrumpTower, Wrigley bldg looking S. and looking w., a rooftop beer garden (block away) and sunsets. Just for fun, patronize the beer garden. But only if you want to have fun. HomewoodSuites is within walking distance of numerous attractions besides the beer garden. Due pizza, Howling at the Moon dueling piano bar, shopping, even a grocery store around the corner (jewel).
A short taxi ride can take you to even more. The signature bus tour (dble decker) tickets can be had at a discount from the front desk. Luvinia is most helpful for this. Jennifer has to be mentioned also, as she contributed to making our stay (3 couples) most memorable. Hey, ya can't go wrong staying here. Stayed 2 nites, 10/1-3/10. Glad to give H.S. 5 of 5. Oh, and the sofa bed rivals the king.

Dear valued guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share so much about your trip. Thank you also for mentioning specific individuals who helped make your trip special. It certainly sounds like your group had a great time. I'm glad we could be part of it.

The beer garden you spoke of is Rock Bottom Brewery. My office is directly below your room so I get to look out at it in the afternoon wondering why I don't have shorter hours.

Thank you again and I hope you come back and visit us in the future.

Our recent stay at this property was OK, but not what we usually look forward to in a Hilton. The rooms are is desperate need of remodeling. There were chipped tiles in the bathroom and the furniture was really worn etc. I decided to pull out the sofa bed to see if it would be good for another stay with the kids and not only was the mattress extremely thin and worn, but there was old popcorn in it too...gross! One of the main reasons we picked this hotel was for the indoor pool, but sadly the pool was closed for maintenance during our stay. On a positive note, the staff was very friendly, and the location was great. The free meals were nice too. I think with a facelift this hotel would be great, but as it is, it feels old and tired.

Dear valued guest,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. I am very sorry that it seems you received accommodations that were substandard. As you describe the room it does not seem like one that should have been released for sale which I will need to review as that may have been an error on our end.

The pool maintenance was an unexpected requirement and although we accommodated guests at a nearby pool I am sorry for that inconvenience as well. If you would like to contact me directly I would be happy to visit with you about your experience.

Thank you again for your time.

If you're looking for a really posh, glitzy hotel in Chicago, you might be a little disappointed in the Homewood Suite Hotel. The furniture is a little worn, and the colors are warm and soothing, rather than bright and "modern". But the service is dazzling - from the valet who took our car to the check-in clerk to the waitstaff in the dining area.
The food (breakfast for two days and dinner for one) was the best surprise - and a real deal. We figured that our party of four saved almost $200 on meals. Again, it wasn't the fanciest nouvelle cuisine in town, but it was really good food - particularly the biscuits at breakfast and the hard rolls at dinner.
Super location for anyone touring downtown Chicago. We had a spectacular view of the Wrigley Building (and its big clock).
Our only complaints (and they were very minor) was that we had some trouble with the remote control on one of the TVs and that the flat sheet for the sofabed had a rip in it.
I would certainly stay here again and so would everyone else in my party.
A really great value for the money - I would describe it with just one word: "nice".

Dear valued guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about your stay. I appreciate that you noted the value that we offer travelers.

In terms of decor we do try to provide a warm, comfortable feeling and I'm glad you noted that. That however does not include a poor remote and a torn sheet so I apologize for that being part of you experience.

Thank you again and I do hope that you enjoyed the rest of your trip to Chicago as well.

On September 19th we made our first trip to Chicago and our first stay with Homewood Suites. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Our suite was on the 17th floor and very comfortable and clean. The hotel has a wonderful breakfast each morning along with a manager's dinner on Monday - Thursday. No problem with elevators being busy and having to wait on them and we didn't have any noise problems from the street. The staff was very helpful in letting us have a late checkout time. This hotel is in an excellent location with the red line about one block down from hotel; restaurants (Joes is great) and grocery store close by; within walking distance to Michigan Avenue (you can go across the road to Nordstrom Department Store and go up to the first floor and out the front door and you're on Michigan Avenue or you can go a few yards down from the hotel and up some stairs to Michigan Avenue). A liesure walk to Navy Pier takes about 15 - 20 minutes. Our cab ride from Union Station to hotel cost about $5.55 plus tip. Thanks to the wonderful staff who may our stay a great one. We will definitely stay here again and tell our friends about this hotel.

I travel at least once a month to Chicago for business and I always stay at the Homewood Suites. What makes the trip enjoyable is the service I receive from Toni and Starr at the hotel's front desk. They are always very helpful and accommodating, and will always do their best to help make your stay more comfortable. This is the only hotel I recommend to friends and co-workers when they travel to Chicago.
