“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

I stayed at the Hyatt Chicago Magnificent Mile for a few days at the beginning of August while on business. The renovations are very tasteful and have significantly improved the hotel. I had stayed at the hotel a few times in the past when owned by Wyndham and then again after Hyatt took over but before the renovations. It was nice before, a little worn and dated, but it is very nice now. This conveniently located, clean and modern hotel now has the added benefit of a new Starbucks located in the downstairs lobby. While staying at the hotel I ventured out for dinner at nearby Navy Pier (a short taxi ride or about a 15- 20 minute walk away) where I was pick pocketed. I was very upset by the whole thing. Kaitlyn, the hotel concierge was fabulous. She was so supportive and helpful through the whole ordeal. She even called the police to help me make a police report. Erik, front desk manager was also incredibly supportive and helpful. I am so very grateful to them for their help. I definitely recommend this hotel.

The Hyatt Magnificent Mile has many positive attributes. The location is nearly ideal (keyword nearly), the staff are five star hotel level, and the entire hotel has been remodeled. One would never know this was a low end hotel just a couple years ago.

Upon arriving at a rather late hour, we were met by a cheery hotel employee named Patrick. He took our luggage and brought it up to our room for us. After a long day of travel Patrick made things easy. He was extremely professional. We valeted the car as is really the only option. This did cost $59 a night but that is just how things are in Chicago. Pretty standard.

Upon entering the hotel, there is a full service Starbucks. The actual lobby of this hotel is on the second floor so you must take one of three elevators up every time.

On the second floor there is ample seating spaces as well as a restaurant. The restaurant served a great breakfast which I got free with my AAA room rate. I got the buffet which did not disappoint. There was a great variety of food. I also had dinner there just to try it out. It was pretty good but I would still recommend going out and finding some good food in the city.

As for the room, I got the Executive Suite. I honestly expected something a little mote impressive for the name, but it was still nice. The whole room had been totally updated in an impressive fashion. An above average sized Samsung Smart TV sat in the living area with an L-shaped couch and chair looking onto the TV. The room was able to accommodate a roll-a-way bed with the bed pulled out of the couch. The living area lacked a window and the lighting was a tad odd. On the way to the separate bedroom there was an oversized bathroom with dual sinks. The bathroom was nicely updated as well. The bedroom is a good size as well that was modern like the rest of the room. There was cool motion sensing lights for when the lights were off and someone were to get up to go to the bathroom. It was just enough light to see but not wake anyone up. However what will wake you up, or keep you up, is the ambulances coming in and out of the hospital across the street. We were on the ninth floor and it was annoying to say the least. That would be my biggest complaint.

Normally the Executive Suite goes for maybe $600-$700. If you are paying this I would say you are crazy. If you have to stay in the Hyatt system, try a suite at the Park Hyatt. Or go to Trump down the street as $700 can get you something much better than the Executive Suite at the Hyatt Magnificent Mile. I got a great deal so it made it worth it.

So if you get a good deal, you want to be by the Magnificent Mile, and you don't mind ambulances coming and going throughout the night then I would certainly recommend this Hyatt.

Your comments about our hotel are very welcome. As you know, we have recently put 25 million dollars into the property. Our one bedroom executive suites are very spacious and are loaded with the most up-to-date amenities including two TVs and an oversized bathroom with dual sinks. Pricing varies with the seasons and what is happening in Chicago and we are glad that you were able to take advantage of one of our many pricing promotions. Thank you for the shout-out to Patrick at our bellstand who is one of our brightest associates. Along with our new hotel product, we have put a lot of time and effort into our customer service training. come see us again when you are in Chicago.

Warmest regards,
The Hyatt Chicago Magnificent Mile

My family and I stopped here for our first night on our road trip to Mt. Rushmore. We enjoyed the service, nice sized clean room for family of 4 and great location within Chicago. The breakfast buffet was awesome. We look forward to visiting again.

Lots of plusses: great location; great staff; nice new renovations (beds and linens were wonderful; big shout out to housekeeeping too); large-ish rooms; new Starbucks just off the lobby and plenty of other casual eateries nearby.

Some minuses: they still seem to be working through the punch list which, in our case, meant a very cold room and a flickering led reading light above the bed, neither of which they were able to resolve while we were there. Also, doors to the rooms seem as if they might be the old ones, refurbished, which is a bit of a disconnect with all the new finishes.

Neutrals: hotel is next to a hospital so there are occasional ambulances. (Seemed like typical city noise to us so we didn't mind.)

All in all, the newly renovated Hyatt Chicago has enough going for it that we certainly will try them again next time we're in Chicago.

Thank you for your feedback. We are very pleased that you enjoyed our new guest rooms and were able to visit our new Starbucks which is located on our first floor. We were distressed to read that you had some issues and want you to know that by no means does that reflect the experience that we strive to provide to our guests on a daily basis. Our engineering department is looking into the matter. Glad to hear that you liked us enough to mention that you will certainly try us again next time you are in Chicago. We look forward to your return!

Revisiting the Hyatt Mag Mile in Chicago last week renewed my faith in Hyatt Hotels - to some extent. Because of our loyalty to this chain we were rewarded with an upgrade to a "suite". The refurbishing has gone well with the umpteen millions spent here. The room layout was consistent with the Hyatt Place layout - a nice relaxing couch with its own large tv and frig in this area. Innovatively the bedside table had an electric plug on the front side, so one did not- initially- have to crawl behind it to find an outlet. Unfortunately, it did not function...If it had, this would have been a good addition to our electronic world. The bathroom was standard size - functioning ok. For breakfast the attractive well stocked buffet was reminiscent of the old Chgo Park Hyatt buffet, but...it was as costly as at a Park Hyatt. That's unnecessary to charge $25 at this lower priced version of a Hyatt. At Hyatt Place b'fasts are free with the room. There IS an in between. Being in the midst of Northwestern University's Hospital complex, one should expect the regular ambulance sirens. While check-in/registration is on the 2nd floor, the bell station and a large Starbucks are front and center on the entrance/1st level.

Thank you for your review of our hotel. While we were happy to hear that you were so happy with your suite, we are sorry to hear of the electrical issue that occurred and can assure you that we will bring this to the attention of our engineering department to resolve the problem right away.
The breakfast buffet is available at our Level Two Restaurant, but we do have other options for our guests. You can order ala carte off the menu if you prefer. We also have our In-Room Dining that is a favorite with our guests for breakfast, lunch, dinner, late night snacks or any time you are hungry! Our new Starbucks opened at the end of July and is another choice. Come back soon.

The Hyatt Chicago Magnificent Mile

Ample rooms, newly renovated, safe place, very competitive rates compared to same level/location hotels.
If noise bothers you at night, be aware that the hotel is across a hospital so at times you will get an ambulance siren in the middle of the night, other than that you can barely hear any other sound.
I recommend it 100%.
Staff was very helpful and friendly at all times. No doubt I will stay there next time I'm in the area.

The Hyatt Magnificent Mile was a perfect location for our long weekend to Chicago. Just a block off Michigan Avenue, its location is great. Cabs available easily. Easy walk to many places. Our corner room had a lot of windows to see the city. It's in the heart of Northwestern Medical. Small but nice pool. Hot tub is nice. Fitness center was well equipped. The big TV is great. The pull out sofa bed was great for our son to stay with us. Bed was great. Bathroom was huge. The littlest detail of the lights coming on under the nightstands when you walk by them were appreciated! Nicely done!

We like to think of the Hyatt Chicago Magnificent Mile as a "hidden gem" in a big city like Chicago. The location of our hotel along with our recent renovation has resulted in a bonus for our guests. The word is getting out that we are the place to stay at when traveling to Chicago for either business or pleasure. Our corner king rooms are extra large and come with a king bed along with a pull out sofa sleeper and large TV. We feel we have "something for everyone" when they stay with us. Many months of planning went into our re-invention and it sounds like you agree with us that every detail no matter how small was worked into the new plans. Your comments make it all worthwhile. We look forward to your return.
