Finishing a 5 night stay with my teenage daughter. Used the Talbott as a base for touring 6 Chicago area colleges. Booked a lovely deal through Orbitz.
Our room was huge, quiet, and elegant. The beds were heavenly.
The staff was so accommodating, from the mini fridge they delivered prior to arrival at my request to the housekeeper's delivery of extra coffee pods, Splenda, soaps and sewing kit. The concierge recommended and booked restaurants that were splendid; he also printed out our boarding passes while we toured. The front desk gave us parking validation cards to get a little off the pricy parking one half block away. Every morning we dined at the Little Market restaurant on site. They prepare a delicious egg white omelet with spinach, mushrooms and caramelized onions. We requested a seasonal berry bowl in lieu of potatoes. A small complaint is the $2.50 up charge for egg whites and the $3 up charge for fruit (especially when the a la carte berry bowl is only $2 more than the a la carte potatoes).
Back to that parking: valet parking is $51 per day; self parking is $40 per day reduced to $36 with that validation discount. There are no in and out privileges with the self park. I never have the patience for valet delays plus every day we would leave all day for college tours and then park all night and walk or subway everywhere so no in and out privileges was all right for us. The Talbott really needs to put a parking package together like I had at the Hilton Back Bay in Boston! Chicago rakes it in on parking!
The location was perfect! We walked to the Miracle Mile to shop (too much!). We took the subway to the Bank of America Theatre to see Book of Mormon.
We walked to McCormick and Schmick, Frog Bar, and even Joe's to feast on amazing seafood (I didn't expect that in the midwest!)
I like an intimate hotel more than a big chain hotel, as long as it is elegant and well run. The Talbott is a winner. Well done!
