“Authentic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2011

At first I thought it was a bit old fashioned. After a few hours I got tuned into the general atmosphere of the property and I loved it.
There are new giant modern hotels in town. Well, I would never change. Talbott gives me the idea of being part of the city, nice attentive service, strategic location.
Overall traditional decor. A should stay!

The Talbott Hotel was recommended to me by a friend so when my adult daughter and 2 of her friends were planning a visit to see an exhibit in Chicago I decided to book them in to The Talbott. What a wonderful choice it was.
After looking at their website, my initial contact was with a young man in their central reservations office. Though very nice and polite he was not informed enough to help with my queries so I asked that I be put through to the hotel, itself. I then spoke to Robert Byars in the on sight reservation area and he was amazing. Cordial, helpful, informative and offered and was willing to answer all of my queries and accommodate all of my unusual requests. For various reasons we ended up speaking often that week and I grew so fond of him on the phone that my next trip to Chicago - even just a day trip - I intend to stop by and meet him in person. He personifies customer service in an industry that demands it.
My daughter took photos of the lobby & the room for me and sent me information each day she was staying. The lobby is exactly what a visitor to Chicago in the winter would hope to find. Warm wood walls, brass lighting and a fireplace burning...and tastefully decorated for the holidays.
Their guest room was wonderful. There were 3 women staying together and the room was huge with 2 double beds, seating, and a large bath that could accommodate all of them getting ready at once. It was also tastefully decorated to be warm and inviting.
The rate and all it included as excellent value for the money and the location is ideal. All in all I would recommend this hotel to any and all visiting Chicago and be sure to ask for Robert – tell him the Mrs. Spaghetti said to say “hello”.

Room Tip: Speak to someone at the hotel itself and make you need clear

Located on a quiet street near Michigan Ave, you are a few blocks away from Michigan Ave shopping as well as great shops like Barneys on Oak Street. The lobby is small, but very quaint with a fire place. The staff goes out of their way to make sure your stay is excellent. Our room with 2 double bed was sizable for all of our shopping finds. The A Keurig coffee maker is a great touch for enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning before you leave. The towels in the bathroom are big and fluffy. Italian Restaurant Bice is attached to the hotel and you can enjoy a "shopped till you dropped" cocktail there before heading out to any of the great restaurants that are in walking distance. All of this for a rate that was reasonable for the experience. We are making this an annual trip!

Everything was well thought out and nicely appointed. The room could be made dark, and was very quiet. The bed, pillows, towels and robes felt luxurious. The shower was set high...good for tall folks. Specific programs and channels could be found easily on the flat screen TV. A Keurig coffee maker made making coffee and tea easy. Free internet access. At $190/night for Gold Coast Chicago, it was a very decent value. Only change I would request--trade out the mini-bar for a mini refrigerator.

This is a nice small hotel located blocks from Magnificent Mile. My room was spacious and very clean. The Apple TV with streaming Netflix was great although there was a technical issue with the streaming during my stay. The maintenance staff could not fix it but the Front Desk Manager actually came up personally and resolved it; that was really impressive. The restaurant was good but a better (and more affordable) breakfast option is around the corner at Tempo Cafe.
I will definitely return to the Talbott on my next Chicago visit.

Room Tip: Higher floor rooms tend to be quieter with less traffic noise.

Among the hotels I have stayed at in Chicago this one surpasses them all. Upon arriving we were warmly greeted by the doorman and the desk staff were all welcoming and helpful. Our room was very clean, spacious and beautifully appointed. The beds were so comfortable and had luxurious sheets and down pillows. We had a comfortable seating area and an ample size desk with Internet access connected to the tv. The bathroom was large, clean and had a heated marble floor. All this and two blocks to the Miracle Mile! Didn't have an opportunity try the restaurant/bar but from the size of the crowd, it too was exceptional.
