“Excellent!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

My husband and I stayed at the Millennium Knickerbocker over 4th of July weekend this summer. The location is excellent - easy access to shopping on Michigan Avenue, and just two blocks (5 minute walk) from Oak Street Beach. There are also several Divvy bike rental stations nearby - we used the one by Oak Street Beach - which made it extremely easy to get around the city in a fun and active way. There was also a liquor store around the corner so you can purchase beer, wine, liquor, and snacks on your own, instead of using the more expensive minibar in the room or bar in the lobby.

The finishes in the room were beautiful. Rainfall shower with glass enclosure, low-flow toilet, roomy closet with plenty of hangers, updated modern style throughout the room, etc. Also, the room was MUCH larger than what most historical hotels offer. The view was just okay, but typical for a city-based hotel. And everything - hallway, elevators, room, etc. - felt very clean and well kept. One weird thing was that the cleaning staff kept replacing the face soap, but never gave us new body soap.

We kind of wished for a roof-top deck or something to relax and enjoy what would probably be a really nice view. I think that would be the only drawback of this hotel. The bar in the lobby was fully stocked and the bartenders were friendly without being overly chatty. The rest of the hotel staff was very helpful, friendly, and accommodating. Some extras were accidentally charged to our room, and the front desk quickly and efficiently checked the charge and made it right.

Finally, the price was excellent. We booked our stay through Priceline. You get an excellent value for the location, amenities, and history of the hotel.

The hotel has clearly updated their rooms recently and are very comfortable. Nice size flat screen televisions. Their staff was friendly including the front desk, bellhops, and doormen. We had a chance to have a drink at their bar as well.

One negative is they wanted to charge something like $12/day for WiFi. Are you kidding me?

Great location being close to Michigan Ave and the Hancock Building.

Room Tip: Rooms facing north will have a better view of the street life but maybe quieter on the south facing...

We just spent 2 nights at the Knickerbocker and were very pleased. The location is excellent. Walking distance to everything along the magnificent mile and oak st beach. hotel was very beautiful and our room very nice, king bed very comfortable. The Nix served a good breakfast. We were amazed that being half a block from Michigan Ave it was so quiet. The only negative i can think of is the rainfall shower, not a fan. To anyone researching this hotel I can truthfully say, go ahead and book without a second thought, you'll love it.

The Millenium is right by Michigan Avenue on the Miracle mile in Chicago. The water is 2 blocks east of the hotel. Everything you can think of is within walking distance. The property is well maintained and the rooms are very nice. I also liked that you could use their internet and wifi on the machine in the room, for $10.95 per day. Didn't bring my own laptop so that was convenient. The bed was amazing. The only drawback was the shower. Not much water pressure but that was not a deal breaker. I would stay there again. It was comfortable and clean. My room had no view. My assumption is that most of the rooms look out over the inside courtyard, or across the streets to other hotels. Maybe 25% of the rooms available can view the water, but I think other hotels block that view too. So don't expect a view of anything but the streets or other hotels. Customer service was excellent as well.

Room Tip: Don't expect any kind of view as the hotel is surrounded by other hotels to the east.

Overall, the hotel was efficient, clean but also had plenty of character. Breakfast pricing was reasonable, with all options being fresh, not buffets. Four minor issues. First, the concierge desk on a few occasions was not staffed. Secondly, the lobby/bar/restaurant area's open plan wasn't appealing. Third, and this is the case is many hotels, but why provide free internet in the lobby but not in the rooms? Fourth, the in room virtual concierge machine even if shut down, came on at 8am which wasn't helpful if you were trying for a lie in.

Room Tip: High floor, in opposite direction to magnificent mile

We picked our hotel on the following criteria; price, location, and history. Family members were staying at the Westin. Our rate was nearly $100 less per night than it would be at the Westin (through Trivago), the MK was a very short walk rounding two corners, and a wonderful piece of nostalgic history; there are hotel tours! We were so happy we chose it. The staff was attentive, gracious, and very accommodating when asked if they could bring us a mini-fridge; we were there several days. Our king room on the 8th floor (room 808) was a bit cramped but every bit as nice as that of our family member’s, and nicer in several respects! We were happy to bit a bit cramped in exchange. We had lovely vistas facing E. Walton Place overlooking the terrace garden of Sotheby’s and views of garden balcony terraces of private residences in the building behind Sotheby’s. The MK lobby is old time grandeur with palpable history, and plenty of comfy sitting areas to enjoy whether waiting for family and reading, or just people-watching. On the last evening it was our family who suggested that we all meet at the MK martini bar for drinks and dinner; both of which were absolutely excellent; a great bar-tender to boot. A Grand Hotel! The icing and cherry on the cake of our little family get-away.

Room Tip: Ask for floor 6 or higher, facing E. Walton Place, room 808 or further towards the corner for nice g...

I was very pleased with this hotel chosen on Hotwire at Magnificent Mile Area - River North. This is a classic downtown hotel with a very nicely updated room and modern bathroom. I basically slept at the Knickerbocker so can only speak of the very comfortable king-size bed and great shower. Yes there rooms are not large.
