“Our New Year's Eve Tradition - The Knick!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

Every year for over ten years we have enjoyed New Year's Eve at the Knickerbocker. It started by accident. We were staying there for New Year's Eve to leave the next morning from O'Hare. The party in the lobby at the martini bar was too much to resist. We were already sentimentally attached to the hotel since spending our honeymoon there in 1994. Even if we don't stay overnight there, we go there for their midnight celebration and it's welcoming and festive atmosphere. A few years ago we entered during the countdown...but we made it! This year we're staying over.

“Great stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

A friend made the reservations for our group and it was a great call. Check in was quick and efficient. Room (a king) was fine. This is an older building but the rooms are modern. The king room was not overly large but then we weren't in Chicago to sit around the room. As mentioned in another review, the shower was large with the "rainfall" type shower flow. Also as mentioned, you could have had three people in the shower, four if they REALLY liked each other. All hotel employees we dealt with were friendly and helpful. The concierge found us a Thai restaurant that was outstanding (Dao, which I will also review). Our group had martinis (mostly) in the hotel lobby bar. Drinks were a bit pricey but there was a three piece jazz combo to enjoy plus great ambiance. Bartender was personable and knew what he was doing. Checkout was basically automatic which made it very quick on our way out. I would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly. You can find more upscale hotels in Chicago but you'll also pay more. This was perfect for our group who wanted to enjoy the Christmas decorations, shopping, and dining that Chicago has to offer.

Room Tip: Room with a king was fine. Ours faced Walden and while there was a bit of noise it was no more than...

“Beautiful and Clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

Great location, service, cleanliness & staff. Checkout was a little weird and they had to call the manager over to take a cash transaction. But overall we had a great time and the Martini's from the lounge are excellent!

“Overall nice, except...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

Stayed here due to the close proximity to the Water Tower and great rate on Hotwire. Check-in was easy and staff was polite and friendly. However, I asked for a room facing the street after being told they were not busy, and was told they really "don't have any rooms with a view" but could put us on 9th floor so at least we would be up high....? What?! I asked to face the front, not for an upgrade, view, or anything else! Seems easy enough, but instead we faced another building next door :( The room was small but clean and comfortable. I was not pleased with the crazy toilet up high (toes dangling on floor while sitting) but this is not a deal breaker. Also, I was confused about what their doormen did, as no one ever even tried to open a door for us, even when we arrived carrying our own luggage! This was just one more person we did not have to tip, but could be a big issue to some. We will probably not be back, but this has more to do with the fact that I like to try different hotels around the downtown area.

“You'll be glad you stayed here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

It's steps from both the lake and the big shoppng district, near enough to transporation, and easy to get a cab. It has a pleasantly old-timey feel, but the rooms are updated and the bathroom is up to speed. The bar was a decent late-night hangout, and has huge TVs for sportswatching.
