A very last minute meeting resulted in a very last.minute reservation at the Drake..the only available room was with twin beds but we were in a jam and booked it. Upon arrival the valet and bellman promptly took the car and the bags...check in took mere minutes and we went off to inspect our twin bed room. Suprisingly, the room was great, huge bathroom, big closet, super comfy fluffy beds which made me happy.
We went down to the bar and had drinks and snacks, specifically manhattens, deviled eggs and chicken wings and all were perfect. The bar is old school fun.
We ordered room service for breakfast and made some crazy requests on the room service hangtag you leave on the door. Everything thing we asked for was done perfectly...we wanted poached eggs on spinach on top of tomatoes and they did it! Anyway we got a late checkout and made our meeting happy and rested.

Great classic hotel in downtown, with the public transportation available getting around was simple. . Needed to check in at 9 AM and they were able to accommodate my request. Rooms were big and clean, mine had an excellent view of the lake.

Stayed 2 nights and enjoyed every moment. The hotel is very ornate and warm, makes you feel like you are at an European hotel. It is situated right at the top of the magnificent mile so you are close to everything whether by walking or taxi. They have a restaurant for tea and a cozy bar in addition to the main restaurant. We ate at the bar and the food was great. Drinks were good there as well and the seasoned chickpeas and peas were delicious.

Check-in was friendly and quick. I was given a deluxe room that was quite large for a downtown hotel. There was a seperate area with a desk, an area with a round table and 3 chairs and a very comfortable king bed. Will be back with the family as the hotel would be comfortable for them for a weekend stay.

The Drake is a grand old hotel from another era. The hallways are expansive, the rooms are huge, there is even a sofa bench in the elevator. The rooms have been updated to include all modern conveniences like a very large flat screen TV, plenty of electrical outlets, coffee station, iron, hair dryer, refer, bar, large bathroom, safe, closets, and huge windows. They do charge for wifi so we used internet sharing on our phones. Breakfast was included in our rate of $89 per night and was delicious. The hotel is across the street from Blooomingdales and Louis Vuitton and on the running path to the lake...great location. The staff was friendly and helpful and we had a wonderful stay in Chicago.

Room Tip: We had a corner room overlooking Bloomingdales on a busy street and it was still very quiet in the r...

We stayed here for a Christmas break and ended up leaving a day early. Beautiful hotel, and I've enjoyed their landmark High Tea, but the poor customer service really spoils it. Played phone tag between front desk/ housekeeping and room service as to who was responsible for providing coffee and tea bags.... Not the type of thing you expect at such an iconic hotel. Oh, we were also double charged only to be sorted out later after three calls.

I was so excited to stay at the Drake where I have dined often and gone to events there. For an old hotel, the rooms are very large, analogous to a modern hotel with all the expected amenities. There were some surprising lapses in the bathroom--badly placed towel racks, dirty water in the tub, etc.--but overall, a beautiful, almost luxurious room. The amazing part of the hotel is the public rooms--the Palm Court with afternoon high tea, the Coq d'Or bar with the ample Commadore, the Cape Cod room with the same waiters who have been there for 20 years+. And, of course, the location couldn't be better, on one of the most expensive blocks in the world (from the Drake to the Lake), across the street from the lake and at the top of Michigan Avenue.

I have heard that some people prefer super modern hotels to the drake, but I personally like the older style. The features that need to be modern, like the bathroom, are modern enough. Like other hilton hotels where I have stayed, it charges a wifi fee for each device that you connect. That is expensive and annoying when I not only have a laptop but also my smart phone and ipad. It is convenient to have them all connect over wifi, to save on batteries if nothing else. I found a solution, which I mainly use in hilton hotels. If you download the free program connectify on your laptop, you can connect your phone and other devices to the internet through your laptop, if the laptop is connected over the hilton wifi. Pay one wifi fee rather than the multiple device fee. It also saves you having the hilton logon screen popping up all the time on all your devices.
