Our family has been staying with The Drake for over 75 years. Most reently my son and I chose to stay there as our "home base" while visiting relatives in the Chicago area over the Thanksgiving holiday. We felt so at home at The Drake even though it has been at least 3 or 4 yrs since our last visit : ) We had a lovely suite looking over Michigan Ave. and the ability to just pop out the front door and walk to Macy's or Lawry's Steak House, Uno's Pizza, etc... is such a treat for us! One day we even walked down to the Art Institute!
Another day my cousin & her daughter met us at the Coq d'or (in The Drake) for lunch and once again The Drake did not disappoint - our lunch was delicious!! Honestly THE BEST burger I've had in years!! For those of you not familiar, the Coq d'or is basically the stuff legends are made of! LOL! It's a lounge/bar that first opened it's doors one day after prohibition ended in 1933. No kidding! They have this really cool red leather piano there and on Fri & Sat nights there is always live music. They have lounge singers/piano players other times too and you never know what famous face you may run into! Be it a local author or a well-know actor, the dimly lit old-world ambiance is just the type of place one can keep a low profile! In my humble opinion if you are going to visit Chicago you should check out The Drake.
