“A gem of a hotel on Chicago's north side.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

I was staying a single night in Chicago and wanted to be near the venue where I was enjoying a concert. Very limited selection if you don't want to travel toward downtown/near north side or stay out near airport.

The Willows is tucked away in a great Chicago neighborhood near Diversey and Broadway which means its only major downside that I saw was lack of onsite or reasonably priced nearby parking. There are a few public lots nearby for a fee and the hotel rate likely makes this a fine option for most.

Great old building but doesn't feel ancient or worn down. For a modest fee I upgraded my room and enjoyed a suite with plenty of room to stretch out. Comfortable bed and sitting area make The Willows a great place to relax. One oddity... the few toiletries provided by the hotel were attached to dispensers near the sink and bath. Felt kind of "bargain" hotel-ish.

Staff was welcoming, helpful and responsive.

Stopped in here in Decemebr 2012.
The hotel is discreetly located not far from N Clark St and Lincoln park.
The room was relatively big and had free wifi.
Receptionist were also helpful, they allowed me to print my Bulls game ticket off the computer as opposed to going to an interenet cafe to do so.
My only issue was the cleaning staff not turning up to clean the room until 16.30 which was far too late for me.
There is a free breakfast, and you can have coffee, hot chocolate, tea etc all day. At 16.00 they offer free cookies, which is a nice touch aswell.

The Willows is a small hotel located near Lincoln Park in Chicago. Rooms were relatively large, with high ceilings and a great value. The minibar prices were very low. (But Trader Joe's and several other places to eat are very close). Room amenities were standard, robes were a nice touch.

The neighborhood is great. Hotel staff were ok, not overly friendly but efficient. A very convenient parking garage is just behind the hotel and only $17/night.

This is a great smaller hotel in Lakeview. I had a wonderful stay clean, spacious rooms. Decent breakfast and coffee 24 hours. Reception staff exceptional Felix, and Adrian were very helpful. Public transport easily accessible. I will definitely stay here again on my future stays.

We were looking for a place to stay on the north side near Lincoln Park and chose The Willows on the strength of its reviews, its rates, its ability to accommodate 4 adults (2 teens) in one room, and because it offered cancellation up to 48 hrs in advance.

The hotel is located on a quiet residential street just a block from a very walkable business district. The building is old (historic, according to the website) and only 4 stories (fitting in with the neighborhood). The small lobby is nicely appointed ( see photo on their website) and our "double deluxe queen" room was spotless and the beds were very comfortable. The bathroom had newer fixtures but retained an older tile (that is still in good condition ). The amenities are Gilcrest & Sommes offered in large dispensers mounted near the sink and tub rather than individual vials. There were two soft bathrobes in the wardrobe. Overall, the effect is of updated but not gutted and completely redone accommodations. There is a chain- hotel style continental breakfast ( some microwavsble items) and complimentary Chicago Tribune in the lobby in the morning.

Parking is available in two parking garages within a block of the hotel. The hotel offers a parking pass for $ 17 that gives in- and- out privileges, a good deal.

Cons: part of the "charm" of an older building is the heating/cooling system. I was awakened overnight by the gurgling, wheezing, and knocking of the radiators (otherwise very quiet).
The facial tissues were off brand and like sandpaper (i had a cold and used a lot of them).

Bottom line: Clean, comfortable, good value for the area, we would stay here again, but I'll bring my own tissues!
