“Nice place, awful service.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here for a rac. and had a very large room, actually two rooms with king sized beds, tvs and bathroom.

The room was very clean and comfortable for us. Great view of the skyline and prettu scenery. We had valet parking that costed $88 for two days which was a bummer.
BRING YOUR OWN TOWELS. We had to ask three times and on the second day we got one more. We also had the do not disturb card in our door and when we arrived back, they were in our room. What?

Decent hotel, but stay somewhere else.

While the hotel has some fantastic features, there were several downfalls. The positives include the amazing view from the lakeview rooms, the location when wanting to be by Millennium Park, Shedd Aquarium, and Solider Field, convenience of being on Michigan and needing Divvy Bikes or other public transportation, the decent comfort of the bed, and history involved with the building. The negatives include the old building smell, extremely old furniture, and the $10 charge per device for wi-fi. It's in serious need of an update.

This hotel was too expensive fpr what we experienced. First the bed felt like we were sleeping directly on the springs and two of the outlets in our room didn't work. We could barely get hot water for shower and the wifi cost $10/day. Will not go back.

I've stayed in a number of old Chicago hotels, so have no illusions about what to expect. My room is on the 12th floor and was probably once the servants' quarters, with 2 very small windows overlooking a similar view across the street. The room & bathroom are very clean, so no complaints there. The wallpaper, drapes, shower curtains and towels all feature the Congress Hotel logo, which lends the room a certain elegance and the TV is state-of-the-art. But the furniture looks like it all came from a thrift store! Nothing matches and everything is scratched up. The tiny desk faces the wall against the corridor and there is a horrid straight-back chair at the desk. Nowhere comfortable to sit. The hotel is old and obviously has its charm but even someone at reception commented that I wouldn't get anything better even if I changed rooms! If you want to stay in this area, stay at the Blackstone instead!

Room Tip: You won't be able to see the lake, no matter which room you choose - it's too far away! You...

We bid on our room and got it for $140 a night. I was a bit apprehensive after reding some of the reviews on TripAdvisor but was pleasantly surprised. The location was perfect. The elevator to our room was small and the hallways were very narrow. Our room was quite small but we were really only there to sleep. The bathroom had been remodeled. The room was clean although a bit dated. The staff was very helpful and pleasant. For what we paid for a room compared to other hotels, I would stay there again.

We just returned from a FABULOUS time in Chicago! My hubby and I stayed at the Congress which is directly across from Grant Park and Millennium Park which are right on Lake Michigan. For us, the hotel was in a perfect location which helped to make our stay in Chicago what it was. We were interested in visiting the Navy Pier, Chicago Art Institute and the parks. So, this location was ideal. For someone that needs high-end comfort....this is not the place for you. I gave the hotel 3 stars because the hotel itself needs some serious refreshing. We stayed on the 14th floor with a view of the parks, Navy Pier and lake. If it weren't for the view I may have secretly wanted to switch hotels. The musty smell of this historic hotel hits you as soon as you enter the building. An even mustier smell hit us as we got off the elevator to the 14th floor. The king size bed which appeared to be a soft place to sleep was actually a rock hard spring loaded bed. On another note...the housekeeper (a lovely lady originally from Mexico) on the 14th floor gets 5+ stars for being friendly and accommodating. All in all, if you aren't in need of a cushy hotel and are looking for a reasonably priced place to stay with a perfect location then Congress Plaza is the place for you! Enjoy exploring Chicago!!! Make sure you go to Second City for the improv comedy.....LOVED IT!

Room Tip: Room #1427 has a great view.

This hotel had a great location and the staff was very polite and helpful. However, I booked a king size Lake view room and I was unable to see the lake from my room! It was facing the lake side of town, but I paid extra to be able to see the Lake!! Our room was nothing special at all, just your standard table, bed and bathroom. I would stay again for the location, but just get a king size room instead.

Room Tip: Ask if your room faces Grant Park and if there is anything scheduled in the evenings during your sta...
