Anyone who has shopped for a nice, reasonably priced hotel within the Chicago Loop knows that it can be a challenge to find both. We thought we may have succeeded. Though not very cheap ($159/night plus taxes) it was acceptable considering the location on the edge of Grant Park. The main lobby is nice but the person at the reservation desk was cold and rude. I asked if we could have a 'lake view". Without blinking an eye,the least bit of friendliness or explaination, she said, "NO". She then proceeded without a smile or further words to give us rooms at the far, far south end of the hotel in what I would call the shanty addition. I had booked and confirmed online two rooms each with Queen beds. Once again with no explaination why, we were given one tiny room with a queen bed and one room with two double beds. They were not even on the same floor. The rooms were sloppily finished, dirt or messy paint on the walls, bathroom tile poorly set and a very cramped room. The bed was shoved against the wall with about 2 feet of space on the other side. The other room had a window that wouldn't close all the way making a constant cold draft in the room with below freezing temps outside. When we checked out, there was no apology or even a "thanks for staying with us". The hallways in our shanty addition were in disrepair and the elevator had a very bad smell. It seemed the hotel staff were either overworked, jaded, didn't care or all three. Not a friendly place or worth the money at all. We will never stay here again.
