“Cold and loud”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

On the plus side, this hotel has a prime location, the bell staff was especially friendly and helpful, and the waitress during our breakfast had a sunny personality. Also, when we ordered a movie and the system didn't work, the hotel comped the fee for the movie rental. On the downside, the water was warm but never hot, the rooms weren't very soundproof, and we complained about the freezing temperature of the hallway on our floor but the A/C continued to blow on high during our entire stay -- and it was only 50 degrees outside! As a result, our room temp was cooler than usual and it took a long time to heat up. This hotel could be great, but based on our experience it fell short of expectations.

I stayed at the Marriott where I also attended a conference. The room was expensive, tiny, and filthy. Immediately on entering the lobby of this property you will smell a strong industrial disinfectant odor, but apparently they aren't cleaning the rooms with it. The linens are dingy, and the flat down pillows have seen their better days. The bathroom is so tiny you are literally standing on top of the toilet while you are drying your hair or brushing your teeth. It is cramped even for one person. The bath linens are also not nice hotel quality. The second night, I was awakened by some girls fighting and screaming in the hallway. On that note, the hotel appears to do a big business at the bar, as the lobby is packed with patrons at almost all hours of the day and night. If I hadn't been locked into this situation due to the conference I would have checked out early and moved on. As soon as I did finish my business I moved next door to the best hotel in Chicago where I spent the rest of my vacation and had a wonderful time. Although the view was nice and it is a great location, I cannot imagine staying at the Marriott under any circumstances and would not recommend it to anyone.

I stayed in this Marriott Hotel for business. The location is excellent -- situated in the heart of the Magnificent Mile. There are several restaurants within walking distance. The lobby is vibrant -- huge bar, sitting areas, and several large TVs. The lobby was bustling with activity each night I was there. I had a wonderful view from the 38th floor. I love the large windows in the room. The hotel was a little drafty in the hallways but all in all was excellent. The fitness center needs updating. The machines were great however there was only one exercise mat and that one was pretty worn. Also, the room with the cardiovascular machines was stuffy -- just a few fans. Yet the indoor pool looked very good. I am an Elite member so I was ale to use the concierge lounge. The food was fresh though I would love to see Marriott offer a healthier alternative to pork sausage like chicken or turkey. Still, one excellent perk (which I have not experienced before) was the Starbucks self serve machines in the lounge. You could make all of the coffee, tea and hot chocolate you want. This is a huge perk and made the lounge a great spot to relax. Also, the lounge was one of the largest I have been in. I highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: High floors, corner rooms have the best views and are the most quiet

Was in town for a business trip of 5 days. The location of the hotel is superb. The bar in the lobby is well equipped and Starbucks serves coffee the entire day. The hotel has a good concierge and plenty of taxis right outside the front door. However, it seems to be standard in the US that wi-fi in the rooms costs approx. $15/day. Why? In Europe the standard is free wi-fi for the entire stay. The corridors are cooled to almost freezing cold, so make sure to wear a jacket when passing from the elevator to your room.

This property has all the right stuff for a great hotel but misses the mark. Super location in the heart of the city with great restaurants nearby. The interior design is very pleasing and a theme runs throughout the hotel. I love the lobby. The hotel food is great and the exercise facilities are large, well equipped and operational with 24 hours access. But the rooms are inferior. The corner room I had was small with a door right next to a hall window - thought I was going to fall out of the hotel. The desk chair was in awful condition with the arm padding pealing away (see photo) and too low in proximity to the desk height for any normal human to actually get some work done. I used one pillow as a cushion to get to a reasonable working height and I am not short. The carpet was new but the sitting chair had filthy, greasy arms. The tile in bathroom was stained but apparently clean. The bed was very comfortable as are all Marriott beds.

Stayed here in July for a business trip and really loved the hotel. It was super busy when we were there and the lobby bar was always packed. The restaurant was also busy but we always had great service, great food, and even great room service. The room was comfortable, the staff was really accommodating. I would recommend this hotel, which also has a great location. we love Chicago, and we loved this hotel.

This hotel simply could not be in a better location. Right in the heart of the Magnificent Mile, this is truly a great spot, walking distance to nearly everything! If you're into shopping, you can't pick a better spot, this hotel is flanked by Forever 21 and Nordstrom, and all the other shops are just steps away!
The rooms are a tiny bit on the small side, but the beds are comfortable. The wifi is only free in the lobby, which worked for us just fine! It was a great stay!

Room Tip: High floor for a nice city view
