The only thing the property had going for it was the price, but it was still too expensive for the quality. We received about 5 minutes of hot water after maintenance "fixed" it. The staff, although not rude, was very unfriendly. The room, along with the hotel as a whole, needs a renovation as all the wiring and piping was on the exterior of the walls. I was unable to pay for the room in cash and put my card on file for incidentals, but instead would have to pay a $100 deposit to do so. I could not figure out how the deposit would be refunded, so that was not a possibility. If I could request a refund for the hassle of staying here, I would in a heartbeat.

Stayed here with my mum for 5 nights recently. The hotel itself is a little old and there were tell tale signs in our room - cracked tiles in the bathroom and stains on the carpet. However, it's a great price and in a fab location. The room itself was clean and a decent size with 2 double beds and a kitchenette. I booked a standard room, but arrived early and they upgraded us to a room with a kitchenette. We really appreciated this gesture, however there wasn't any pots/pans/mugs/glasses/cutlery, just a microwave and sink, so I'm not really sure how we were meant to use it?

It's a brilliant location - close to the fantastic shopping on state street, around a 30 minute walk to the water tower place, and 10 minutes to the magnificent mile. There's a fast food place joined to the hotel, as well as other fast food places like subway close by. There's a red line stop literally round the corner, and all other stops are no more than a 10 minute walk. Really enjoyed my stay here. I've stayed at many places in different parts of Chicago and this has to have been one of my favourites.

While this hotel was nothing to write home about, it was clean and the price was reasonable.

The bathroom was very clean and had been renovated within the last few years. The decor wasn't very modern or attractive, but everything was functional. The bed was comfortable. The safe was big enough for our laptops, camera, etc, and had a digital lock.

The biggest downside with this hotel was that the windows are extremely old; I think they are a single pane window, and there was a rag or something stuffed in the cracks around the slider to try and reduce the noise (which was not effective; the window might as well have been open.) The subway car goes by quite frequently, so that got to be a bit of nuisance, on top of the noise from the street. We were still able to sleep, but it was distracting.

As long as you plan to spend most of your time sight seeing, rather than lounging in your hotel room, it's fairly good value. If you're willing to spend another $40-$50/night, there are better options; but if you want to be fairly close to the loop and not go to a sketchy area of town, this hotel is OK.

The other negatives was the water pressure in the shower was very low, so it took a long time to rinse your hair. And the walls don't appear to be insulated, so you can easily hear people talking in adjacent rooms. Also try to avoid rooms around the elevator.

Good place, location and service. Only downside, the higher you are the slower your wifi.

All in all enjoyed my stay thanks!

Had a very nice stay. Came to town for some business meetings & hotel was exactly what I was hoping it would be. Clean, friendly staff. Hotel was close to places to eat or grab a drink; & also close to my meetings. Would stay here again if I'm ever in town again.

Thirty years ago I was here before, being student visiting a medical conference. I noticed that many rooms were actually occupied by homeless. Now this intitution seems to be transformed in a hotel. Somehow management didn't succeed to change it in a warm, welcome hotel. Gloomy place, blistering paint and corresponding uninterested personnel. My room (#325) offered no view at all. Slow wifi. Be prepared for long waiting times at elevators, even at non rush hours. When leaving it is hard to find taxis that stop at hotel.
Large rooms though, with a small pantry.
Nice for students and low budget travelers, less for older folks.

Room Tip: Tip: avoid room 325

Travelodge is a good option to stay in Chicago downtown but the hotel is old and there is a lot of noise. There is train crossing near the block, so if you have a soft sleep you probably will have some problems. Overall is a good option, cost and benefit. I would stay there again. There is a subway, 7 eleven, cvs a few minutes walking. Also if you are able to walk a little bit more, you will find a Target and other big markets around. The Millenium Park is one block away and the subway (red line) also.
