Went in late one night with reservations for a queen sized room and they upgraded me to a king sized suite. The staff was awesome and the valet service was a bit cheaper than the garage. I had a great stay. i usually don't fill these out but the stay was so good for the price I felt obligated.

I went to lecture at a university in the Lincoln Park area of Chicago, and the university chose Day's Inn Chicago for me, with the assurance that it was a lot nicer than some of the other hotels in this chain of independently-owned hotels. And so it was. It has a spacious lobby, a not-entirely-spacious-enough breakfast room (at peak times) offering cereal, do-it-yourself-waffles, breads and muffins of various kinds, cold cereal, fresh fruit, juices, coffee/tea/milk, and flavored yogurt. The room I occupied was small but perfectly adequate with phone, lamps, chair, large-screen TV, coffee maker, luggage rack, adequate hangers (affixed to the rack to prevent theft), mirrors, soaps, shampoo, lotion, thin but adequate towels, and good hot water pressure. The reception staff is pleasant and helpful. There are taxis at the corner, a bus stop across the street (near a Trader Joe's; good sandwiches and fruit there), and subway to the Loop nearby. Taxi to the airport costs just under $35 if there's no traffic. To get there from O"Hare Airport or to go from there to O'Hare, take the Blue Line that connects to the 76 bus along Diversey Street, from (or to) Orchard Street stop at the east end, where the hotel is, or to Logan Square at the west end (where the train is). Bus stops are marked. To use public transportation (total cost either to or from O'Hare is $5 in 2013), you need a CTA card. I don't know where you get the card on the street but you can get one at the airport. An airport shuttle service to the hotel costs $35 so you might as well take a taxi, especially if you are more than one person traveling----unless you want to take the cheap route via Blue Line and #76 bus. Between Logan Square and Orchard St along Diversey, you will stop 26 times.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the courtyard, as there will be no street noise. The hotel provides ear plugs...

Having stayed in some not-so-fantastic Days Inn's in the past, I was a little leary but the price was reasonable and it was walking distance to Wrigley Field and we were catching a game. I was pleasantly surprised. I had read that the rooms were small. I didn't feel the room was too small (we had a king sized bed), the bathroom was rather tiny. But it was VERY clean, which is of utmost importance to me. Being from out of town we had lots of questions, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Convenient location on the north end of the city, with easy public transportation into the city. I even walked down in to the city on our third day there, it was about a 2 or 3 mile walk, not bad. They had a free breakfast, nothing fancy - waffles, bagels, cereal, fruit, donuts - but enough to start the day. For the price I would definitely stay there again.
