3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

If you want a hotel in a great location, this is the perfect hotel. It is close to everything, even the Navy pier. However, the room was just down right awful.Old, outdated, kind of sad room! The rooftop terrace was nice, but no bar, or drinks available. If you are planning on running around all day and just need a place to crash, this is your place. If this place ever modernizes their rooms, it could ask for top dollar (that is how good the location is.)

This hotel is a classic “you get what you pay for”. It is in a great location and a good rate. The hotel itself could lend to renovation and security update, ie. Safe deposit boxes in room.
The difference between the way the lobby is presented verses the way the rooms are presented is chalk and cheese. I thought I stepped back in time when I entered our room.
Saying that, we had no issues and the café next door opens at 6am is very handy with nice food and drinks.

Stayed for four nights last August. We made a non-refundable reservation through hotels.com two months in advance, what gave us a discounted rate of about $100 per night. For this price, the hotel offers a good value for money. Room was a little bit old, with a noisy A/C. But everything was functional, the staff was nice and accommodated every request we had. Location is really the best of this hotel, a block from Michigan Ave and a couple from the Chicago river. They also have a nice rooftop with couches and chairs for guests to hang around. Free wi-fi is only available in the lobby, what is somewhat inconvenient. Keep in mind that rates can increase sharply if you book only a few days/weeks in advance...and if you pay around $200 for this hotel you can be seriously disappointed.

My good friend and I traveled to Chicago to celebrate her engagement. The staff was great, especially Natalie who offered us an upgrade due to the celebration. We had a room on the 20th floor with a great view and plenty of room. I have previous work experience in the hotel industry and couldn't find any complaints. The location of the property was great for shopping and pretty much walking distance to anywhere you want to go. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone on a budget looking for a great location.

Room Tip: If you are celebrating something special, it never hurts to ask (politely!!) for an upgrade!

So behave stayed here twice and although this hotel was not horrible there were some issues. We had a nice spacious king room and the night before we requested two beds because we were having two friends stay with us at last minute. We get there they charge us an extra $20 which is normal and then put us in a small corner room with not a lot of space. The last time I stayed here the rooms were double the size we had this time. The room was clean except for the air conditioning vent needs to be cleaned thoroughly and due to that the wall had dust on it. The bathroom was clean but vey small. Now we requested a mini fridge and they were able to bring one up for no charge. The beds were comfortable and clean. I would stay here again but in an upgraded room.

If you want to be in the heart of downtown and don't care for a quality hotel experience, then this is the place for you. We arrived around 4pm on Saturday and was surprised not to be greeted by anyone. No doorman, no bellhop to help with luggage, only people smoking right in front of the main entrance. Our room was on the 18th floor, which was honestly one of the smallest hotel rooms I have ever stayed in. The bathroom felt like it was made for elementary school sized children. The room was for the most part clean, but it didn't look like the carpet was vacuumed. After our event we returned to the hotel around 1am, it felt like a vacated building. All of the lights in the lobby were off, all of the doors were unlocked, no doorman, no security, no front desk agent, no one. I did not feel safe sleeping there. Sunday morning we were awoken by housekeeping having an inappropriately loud conversation in front of our door at 8am. Called Natalie at the front desk who assured us she would handle this. We had to call her back an hour later to complain again. Same girl couldn't even transfer us to room service, instead had a menu brought up to the room, opted to dunkin donuts instead. Monday morning, same thing. House keeping social hour in front of the door. Angry, decided to check out early. Spoke to Natalie again about how disappointed we were with our stay, and with her. She gave an attitude and would not let us speak to the manager so we just left. I will never stay here again.

Dear Ashley G,
Thank you for your review. Please be assured that we value everyone one of our guests, and do everything to make sure their stay is as enjoyable as possible. It seems we fell short in delivering this basic promise to you, and for that we sincerely apologize. Rest assured, your comments about the housekeeping staff talking outside your guest room during your stay will be properly addressed. This type of service is completely unacceptable, and it saddens us to hear how your situation was handled prior to your early departure. Again, please accept our apologies for falling short of meeting expectations.
Best,
Guest Services

The location was great, right in the middle of the Magnificent Mile, so very convenient.

It was clean, but I agree with other reviewers that renovations are needed. The first room we were given on the 5th floor was awful. One small window, and one of the beds blocked the entry hallway. Technically, it was a room for four, but it was tight with two. Next room was better, larger and more comfortable, on a higher floor.

Nice rooftop terrace, but the bar is on the first floor. It would be better if there was at least a portable, limited bar up there.

Overall, not sure I would stay again. I would consider it, for a better price, given the location.
