5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

Our experience was great from the time we phoned in for directions and were fortunate enough to speak with Julianne, through our check-in process and beyond, when Maria expertly took care of our every need. This is an outstanding facility; and our room was beautiful. Clearly, the multi-million dollar upgrade was well spent! We were there celebrating our anniversary, and we were looking forward to a great time. We were THRILLED at our room, which overlooked the park and the lake. Room 1218. You won't go wrong. In addition, the concierge recommended and secured reservations at a great restaurant; The Gage, which was close, not too expensive and very good. All in all - this was a 10 out of 10 experience.

Oh yea - walking distance to the Blue and to the Red El lines if you're familiar...

Room Tip: Lake View corner rooms are great. It's an older hotel, but it's been updated, so the traffi...

Visited Chicago on a recent birthday get away to Chicago - 3 night stay.

Staff and service are thoughtful, attentive and very professional - worthy of a 5 star rating. Special attention should be mentioned to the exceptional concierge Shannon Boland. Shannon put together some great recommendations for places to see and a few spectacular restaurants. She took the little homework that we did and built on it; using her personal experience and critical acclaim. All of the other staff were great as well - front desk, door and bell hops. They sent up a little something for me for my birthday - nice touch.

The hotel is in a nice location - very close to Millennium Park and south of the Magnificent Mile. The hotel is historic and built on the Blackstone mansion. It has a great mix of classical charm and really stylized, modern touches. Very nice in a city that is all about the mix of old and new.

Rooms carry the classical and modern touches from the rest of the hotel. The rooms are missing some of the finer touches the prevent me from classifying this hotel as excellent. The bed is very soft, with lots of very soft pillows and great linens. While this is comfortable for a short time, we both woke up with sore backs each morning. We discussed this with the staff but were told that all the beds were the same - no resolution offered. The room did not have a sheer set of blinds, blackout shades were the only option. Since we were in a south facing room, our room was very bright and looked at the Hilton across the road - so we could only have the blackouts closed. It prevented us from enjoying the natural light in the morning while getting ready. Hotel did not have slippers for guests and only one robe was provided.

Went to the hotel's restaurant, Mercat a la Planxa - wasn't impressed but I will mention that in a separate review.

All in all a nice stay in a great hotel but a few small tweaks are required.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the park and high up - loud road noise

The Blackstone once hosted the likes if Al Capone. It is very historic and is amazingly updated inside since Marriott bought it. About a mile from the heart of Chicago. The hotel has a FANTASTIC Spanish restaurant. Don't miss it!

Booked the Blackstone on Marriott Points as my youngest and I were in town for him to tour UIC and U Chicago. The location is super convenient to anything you need to get to in the Loop. The room was well appointed and you could see the lake from the windows. Kelly from the Concierge desk was terrific, she gave us coupons for Lou Malnati's Pizza (see my review) and the John Hancock Tower. We loved the close feel of the Hotel and it's incredibly ornate lobby. Truly a Hotel of Presidents.

Room Tip: Get a room on the South side so you can see the Lake

Wife and I stayed for 5 nights at the hotel in September and had a great time. Located across from Grant Park where you can cross to get to Lake Michigan or go north to the Navy Pier. A short walk up Michigan avenue and you were at the beginning of the Magnificent Mile. We did not eat at the Hotel as there is so much great food in Chicago. The rooms were very nice...ours overlooked the park.

This is a really nice hotel, beautiful rooms, perfect service. From the hotel you can just walk to downtown hotel, spend some time in the nearby park or walk along the lake to the Navy Pier. A perfect place to have a good time in Chicago.

This is my second weekend stay in this hotel, and this time I was here for a running event. I am very pleased with the hotel. This time I got a corner room and it is very quiet. I was able to get my work down and rest at the same time. If the hotel can guarantee this type of comfort every time I stay, then I'll gladly pledge loyalty.

Location wise is probably not at the top but they are close to the part. I'm a runner so this is the perfect spot. I can't really comment on the food variety that's available but there are enough within walking distance.

Compared to other Renaissance hotels I have stayed (Shanghai, Houston, Dallas, Bangkok, and others, can't remember them all), this is in the top three, and I would say #1 in the North American personal ranking so far.

Room Tip: The best room I had was the corner room, away from elevators.
