“A neighborhood gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2012

This place is awesome! It's a quiet little BYOB spot on the main road of Ashland. Parking is easy in the neighborhood, and it's easy to find. This place was full of young couples, families, and even a couple of older couples too! The definition of a neighborhood gem. The food is delicious, interesting, and presented well with a smile from some of the best servers around! All in all, and fun night!

“I love peruvian food and this restaurant was not bad!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2012

El Sabor Peruano in Cincinnati, Ohio (technically Fairfield) is the best peruvian restaurante I've ever been to, for starters.

This one was not bad. The server was awesome, and the ambiance was superb. The wait staff could calm down and not rush to grab plates, but still not a bad experience.

The food is authentic peruvian. It does, however, seem to lack some of the traditional flavors and zest. The ceviche mixta was really good with some ricotto.

“Not a real peruvian restaurant. Not even good food”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2012

As a peruvian i never had that bad of food like this restaurant. I dont think their food is peruvian at all. I went to this restaurant on 2/11 and it wasnt a good experience. First we got there and we ordered a dish with corn, cheese and a yellow sauce(huancaina). They put it in a little container like it was mustard for your fries. I just couldnt understand why they were so cheap with that and plus they put cumin on the sauce. I never seen anybody putting cumin on that sauce. Then they took over 30mins to bring our food. The waiter came to apologize for the delay and even offered us some free dessert but it was way too long. Plus when our main dishes came, the eggs were way overdone and my wife's food was salty. The plantains were somewhat burnt. I dont know who wrote the other reviews but i doubt they are real. I saw other plates for people around us and they didint look peruvian at all. I am just glad we were able to make it for the Blue Man group show but we had to eat our food really fast. If you are looking for a peruvian restaurant in chicago... dont go to this place. Very dissapointing to eat at this place.

“Nothing to look at outside - BUT great food at unbelievable value inside...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2011

Have been here repeatedly for everything from intimate date (with live and lovely Peruvian music in background!) to daughter's graduation party of 14 people. BYOB - gracious waitstaff and owners (3 brothers from Machu Picchu, no less!) - hospitable to family style parties and yuppy couples alike. Food is amazing - INCLUDING brochettes of delicate grilled and exquisitely marinated heart ($8.00! - enough for an ENTREE!), huge plates of fresh, citrusy and delicious ceviche, delicious grilled steaks, maize cakes with delectable pieces of meat and peas, etc to die for (Charlie Trotter, look out!), wonderful ethnically true fish dishes, great salads and vegetables - also unusual - a MUST to try. Will even make their unique signature tripe dish for you if you pre-order (not on menu anymore). Prices are hard to believe for the high quality - very affordable. Consistent quality and service. Every time. Weekends are crowded enough to go a little early or make reservations. Weekdays are quieter.
While the interior ambience is fine -a large and attractive enough mural of Machu Picchu covering one wall, clean, and light - the exterior - facing Ashland Avenue- does not do the restaurant justice. Would love to see more curb appeal to draw in the crowds! Nice, nice people work there as well. (They graciously - and gratis- serve you your BYOB as well!)
