“Excellent Value; Excellent Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2005

We stayed at The Flemish House for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. The location is perfect for walking (an easy walk to Second City Club and nightlife in one direction as well as an easy walk to the shopping (and hotels) on Michigan Avenue. Busses are within a block and the EL is a few blocks away. We stayed on the 3rd floor front and it was spacious and tastefully decorated and very comfortable. There is no comparison to the value here versus a hotel. We would definitely stay again.

My husband and I stayed four nights in this charmer and found it had several outstanding features. Even if you don't like B&B's you'll love this place. It's more like apartment living because there is no common dining room, no breakfast is served and there's no obligatory mingling with other guests. Instead we had a living room that overlooked a lovely street, a bedroom, bathroom and small kitchen. The owners will stock the frige so you can prepare your own breakfast or stock it yourself with your own preferences. Since it's really an apartment you have plenty of room to stretch out and space to get away from each other. We were in the first floor front unit and it was really beautiful. It is a stellar neighborhood with fine dining close including the Drake Hotel where high tea is a must and Bistro Zinc, which was excellent. There are shops that rival Rodeo Drive and vintage residential buildings with friendly people all around. The lake is steps away and the Mag Mile is within walking distance. We did not have a car, which would have been a hassel. Taxis, buses and trains abound. This was a very private and quiet apartment and we can't wait to go back!

We stayed in the first floor rear unit and loved it.
The antique furnishings were fantastic. The room was clean and quiet. We opted for the non-breakfast at a reduced rate, which was no problem since State and Cedar had a plentiful amount of food establishments.
The "Corner Bakery" on the corner was fabulous.
The location was great - just a quick bus ride down on Michigan (bus 151), a nearby walk down historic Astor Street and the subway is about 2 1/2 blocks away.
This is the best place to stay (I've been to chicago twice before). Look no longer.
The owners are very welcoming and have even put together a binder of information in the room along with guidebooks for visitors use.

This place is so quaint, beautiful, clean, quiet, and romantic! I can't say enough good things about the Inn. The innkeepers (Mike & Tom) are so very gracious and accommodating. I mentioned to Mike that I liked popcorn (kitchenettes have microwaves), and later that evening, we found 2 bags of popcorn that had been slid under the door! It's in VERY close proximity to great restaurants, shopping, & nightlife. However, it still manages to be VERY quiet. We slept AMAZINGLY well here. Wonderfully comfortable beds. The furniture/decor was truly beautiful. And they have two very sweet kitties that will become your friends should you desire! I felt like I was at HOME, not travelling, the entire duration of my stay.

What a find! Superbly presented and maintained apartments offering the option of breakfast too, in a fabulous location with all that Chicago has to offer only a stones throw away. We couldn’t have wished to stay anywhere better. Great to have space too rather than have been cramped into a hotel room for a week. Couldn’t recommend highly enough.

So many wonderful things have been said about the Flemish House and I can only add that they are true, true, true.
We have stayed at other places in the Gold Coast and the Flemish House is a unique and far superior alternative. I only wish we could have stayed longer.

When arriving at the Flemish House of Chicago on May 26th we found a place so nice that we couldn't believe it in first, but we had to learn that it was real.

Nice people welcommed us and the service around the Studio we got for our use was excellent. The Studio we lived in was furnished very tasteful and all other equipment was perfectly harmonizing with it (kitchen and bath). The price for this one is absolutely justified.

The neighborhood couldn't be better, you are near to the Mag Mile, Downtown, Old Town and the living Chicago around North Rush. You will find all kind of nice restaurants around; elegant, cosy and normal pubs where you can meet all kinds of interesting people. 3 minutes to walk you are at the Lake/Beach for relaxing, walking, biking or whatever you just want to do.

Not much to walk to reach busses and trains fm CTA.

Everything fits perfectly and we loved that place and will for sure come back.
