“First Time and would definitely return!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2014

Beautiful hotel with a great roof top bar overlooking the city. Room was perfect. Would definitely return for a business trip or weekend in Chicago. I did not have time to go to spa or workout facility.

If you dont find this place to be a beautiful 5 star hotel, you just arent able to be pleased. Rooms are large and have gorgeous views. Big bathroom, little kitchen area and a comfortable sofa as well. Dont forget to look at the pillow menu and order something soothing!

A wonderful hotel in the heart of Chicago next to the river. Our room was nice overlooking the river and over Michigan Lake. Check in was swiftly without any complications. We do enjoy the breakfast in the morning as well, all as what we would have expected. The only downside was we could not get a late checkout at 3PM as the room apparently was allocated for the next customer.

Room Tip: lake view rooms, great

Shame they didn't...

Room not ready on arrival (2 hours after check in time)
One member of party sent to Terrace for complimentary drink while they were waiting only to be told there was no space (another member of staff had more common sense and found a seat at the bar for her)
Other members of party arrive after dropping off rental car only to be told our room isn't ready and they have no idea where the other member of the party is (even though she'd told them to tell us).
Finally get to room after nearly an hour to find we've been upgrated to suite which only had 1 bed for 3 people (a sofa bed isn't a proper bed if that's not what you've chosen to have). Nice gesture but not suitable.
Bags not delivered to room in a timely manner.
Change room back to room we booked (2 queen bedded room) after a 10 minute wait at reception
Arguement about whether the company we booked through guarantees type of room (when there are 3 guests on the booking, it's not rocket science to assume they will want more than one bed - again, I don't think a sofa bed counts unless that's what you've chosen to have!). Why is it so hard to give people what they've booked?
Huge wet patch on the floor when we finally got in our room. Never worked out what that was but it was wet until the next day!

Managed to break a bottle of water within 5 minutes of being in the room just by standing near the window to look at our river view. Took over 2 hours for the house keeping to come and pick up the broken glass even though we called straight away.

2 other nails in the coffin:
Manager of reception called to ask if we were okay and called my dad the wrong name.
Note from house keeping at turn down service addresed to the wrong name.

Finally - had a letter saying sorry and offering us a free upgrade next time we stay and some free chocolates... delivered at 10.45pm at night when we were asleep before an international flight the next day... Luckily they only woke up one of us! The next morning would have been fine, guys. And a free upgrade means nothing when we turned it down when you gave it to us this time and also when we're English so unlikely to be back for a long time (or at all, when you've given us this bad service)

Also, far too few lifts for the number of rooms. They should open all 6 lifts to all floors and not split them between the public areas and the rooms.

On the positive side:
great views from the river view rooms.
nice decoration.
great location.
stunning building which is a great part of the Chicago skyline.
they haven't (as yet) charged us for the broken water...
Amazing terrace for drinks/dinner - But MAKE A RESERVATION. Hotel guests don't get any priority.

Service needs improving but if it all went right, I'm sure you'd have a great time as it's a great hotel.

Room Tip: River view all the way!

My son and I had a great stay at the Trump. From the front desk to the concierge to the housekeeping staff, everyone was friendly and helpful. We arrived earlier than expected, so our room was not yet ready. The front desk staff, however, was very pleasant and we simply walked around the city for an hour or so until the room was ready. Once we entered the room, we were pleasantly surprised at the size of the room and could not believe the views! We had a river view room on the top floor of the hotel (27) and it was simply perfect.

We spent most of our weekend walking around the city and the hotel offered the perfect location to walk to Michigan Ave., Navy Pier, Millennium Park, etc. We only needed to use the "L" once and that was to get to Wrigley. The hotel does offer transportation within one mile but we did not use this service.

We did not dine at the hotel or utilize the spa so cannot comment, but the hotel itself is highly recommended for those who want a wonderful home base for their Chicago vacation.

Let me start by saying that we have stayed here before, and I really want to like this hotel. We often have groups here for business. The location is great, and the rooms are nice. I just can't get over the terrible service here. It is beyond awful, and for the amount of $ they charge for everything - it should be great.

We arrived to check in Saturday, to complete chaos in the valet area, long lines to check in at the lobby desk, and no overflow space to accommodate the hundreds of people jammed into the entry way. After waiting 20 minutes to check in, we were told that our room wasn't ready (even though it was almost 2 hours after check in time). They weren't very apologetic - just "sorry - we are backed up and there is nothing we can do". Fine. Unfortunately, we were pressed for time as our limo was coming to take us to an event in an hour and a half with a group - so that meant no time to spare. We had planned on ordering room service while we got ready, but that wasn't an option with no room. So, we asked if we could run to the restaurant while they tried to get our room set up. That was a bad decision. Total chaos at the terrace restaurant, since apparently no one could get into their rooms. We waited for 40 minutes for a table and had awful service. We got the wrong drinks, cold food, and everything was SLOW. Another $200 for a bad experience. Good times.

They finally called to say our room was ready, and promised to have our bags sent up to the room by the time we made it up there. Nope, another 20 minutes, 2 phone calls and then finally we got our things. We had 15 minutes to shower and change for our event. No time to relax, no time to enjoy ourselves - thanks to their bad planning and poor service, we were rushed.

Later that night when we returned to our room, there was a note from management apologizing for our experience. Normally, that would go a long way with me. However, this note said "keep this for a free upgrade on your next visit". What? I am supposed to want to come back? And then if I do come back, I have to keep a piece of paper to receive the upgrade? That's a lot of work for the customer who was treated like crap to begin with. Not impressed.

There are so many wonderful hotels in Chicago - please stay at one of them instead. This weekend was a disaster thanks to our horrible experience at the Trump. We live in Chicago, and spent a ton of money to have a sitter for the kids, so we could stay at the Trump, have a good time. It was a mess. We wish we would have stayed at the Four Seasons, or the Peninsula where the experience is always top notch. The building is nice, but everything else here is awful. I regret staying at this hotel, and will never book another group here for business or pleasure. The Trump properties claim to offer a higher level of service, and many of them are great - this one just fails miserably on many levels. Spend your money elsewhere.

I've stayed here a few times now, and every time I am impressed by the excellent service. Beginning with the warm towels at check-in to the ease of arranging transport back to the airport, every employee goes out of their way to make you feel welcome.
The room service is excellent, and the 16 Restaurant is truly world class.
I usually book through American Express Platinum/Centurion and this hotel has always provided great upgrades (last week I had a huge suite when I'd booked a regular room), and the hotel credit can be used for absolutely anything at the hotel.
The beds are so comfortable, and the room darkening drapes truly keep the room dark.
Truly one of the very best hotels I've experienced.
