Spent the last week of August 2013 touring Chicago. Stayed at the Hampton Inn Majestic - Theatre District (hotel and area very quiet at night) and could not be happier with the total package. It's a small hotel above the Majestic Theatre, centrally located downtown. The room is a good size with a coffee maker. It's décor is burnt orange and brown, but the room is not drab because of the large windows. Beds and pillows very comfortable. Clean towels (plentiful) every day. Large TV. Basic hotel room I guess. Front desk personnel definitely pointed us in the right direction based on what we wanted to tour. To begin, their recommendation was the Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co. (hop on and off). It features five tours, one of which is the City Lights Night Tour; others take you to the North, South, West, and, of course, downtown & we received a discounted ticket, which is good for three consecutive days. Best deal. Plan accordingly and you'll see everything as well as use this for transportation around downtown days and nights. The hotel provides free breakfast, a Breakfast to Go bag, if desired, and homemade cookies early evening; two huge fruit bowls and coffee/tea, etc., station 24 hours. Because the weather was in the 80s, hotel gave us water bottles upon request. They also provided printouts of places we walked to. The chambermaids and kitchen staff were very pleasant and helpful--always smiling. The evening before check out, the manager called us to see if we had any concerns or suggestions to improve their services. Also, hotel honors AAA, so we received an excellent rate. Lastly, the Book of Mormon (fabulous) was playing at the Majestic Theatre and it holds a lottery two hours before every performance. We saw it for $25 each. Chicago is a really great city and Wrigley Field is worth seeing a game there, if in season. (Cubs lost.) Con: You'll run into all ages holding "homeless" signs on every corner of State Street.
